Before Twice people thought they would overtake JYPE.

They had a strong run during 2nd gen and there was even some talk about them replacing JYP as part of the Big3. B2ST, 4Minute and Hyuna were all very successful and BTOB debuting in early 3rd gen is also a popular group, especially in Korea.
Then they lost the ball with CLC and Pentagon.
Gidle is doing good but Lightsum might be their biggest failure so far.
They're not near Big3/4 level but they're solid mid-tier. Probably one of the biggest agencies beside SM, JYP, YG and Hybe.
About the same as Starship I think

They're around Top 5-10, but the difference between Number 4 & Number 5 is like an order of magnitude bigger in terms of market capitalization.
Looking at the real numbers, if assuming YG is the smallest of the Big 4, their market cap is at 1.3 trillion won, whereas Cube's market cap is at 326 billion won, so YG, the smallest Big 4, is is 300% bigger than Cube.
So yeah, the people saying they're "just behind" YG/JYP/SM needs to get a grip.

Or at least the first thing that people wanted to know of an ex. trainee on Produce Japan was where he had been as he left Japan and why he came back to Japan and than asked him why CUBE didn't wanted to have him and that poor dude didn't even knew why he was kicked off

Depending on which era we're talking about back in the second gen everybody used to say that Cube should be counted as part of the big 3 of remplace JYP for the 3rd spot because at that time Beast and 4minute we're really huge almost all of their releases toped the charts also they had Hyuna who also hit it big with her solo activities and then we had troublemaker a due that was highly acclaimed at that time anything that came out of cube was successful even their sub company cube-a was a able to produce a huge group that is A-pink but unfortunately after some changes in the company they slowly started to lose their touch btob is group that is well liked group now but they had a hard time establishing a name for themselves during their debut days also CLC wasn't able to walk on 4minute fame and same thing with Pentagon Cube groups barley have any impact during 3rd generation and now with the 4th generation G-idle was able to revive Cube states reciprocate cube fame but we can't say the same thing about lightsum
