[theqoo] WILL SMITH AND CHRIS ROCK'S OSCAR'S FEUD DUMP

  • [theqoo] WILL SMITH AND CHRIS ROCK'S OSCAR'S FEUD DUMP

(T/N: not the same tweet as the original post in Korean but the below is the English tweet)

Chris Rock made a joke about Will Smith's wife but he got genuinely mad

As one comment said, Will Smith's wife has alopecia so she shaved her hair recently
And Chris Rock made a joke about her appearing in G.I. Jane 2

    He deserved it, he f*cking crossed the line;

    1. It's a relief that he only hit him once though?

    2. He needs to knock him f*cking hard to snap him back to his senses

    3. Disappointed in Will Smith... he should've beaten him to death

    4. He shouldn't have just slapped him but hit him so much that he shuts his mouth. He still talked afterwards

    5. He only hit him once? He seriously should've hit him more

    6. Me too this got me so mad that I wanted to hit him. Just imagine how furious Will Smith was

    7. Wow he remained so calm. I would've beaten him to death.... The level of gag is so low that they are joking about someone's pain. What's worse is that he's talking about someone else's family, f*ck

    8. I would've done the same.... does he wanna joke about someone else's pain?... he crossed the line...

    9. He should've beaten him way more

    10. He did the right thing. It's a relief that he stopped after one slap.

    2. It's his first Oscar congrats congrats

    3. I thought that he would only go home with bad memories but wow, he really went through both extremesㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ congrats so much

    4. Will Smith is always cheerful and I can feel that he's a good Hollywood actor so seeing him win is the best👍👍👍 congratulations!!!👏👏👏👏

    5. Kim Richard was fun~ You can watch it in the theaters now so make sure you go

    6. Hul finally ㅜㅜ congrats congrats

    7. It's surprising that this is the first Best Actor prize for Will Smith

    8. A lot of cinephiles said that the movie was nothing special when he was released but it ended up doing so well. This is refreshing to see

    9. Hul I watched a little bit of the teaser and I only realized that it was Will Smith now;;

    10. I liked the movie. This kind of acting is seriously difficult to do. Will Smith's win is totally deserved, congrats congrats

    Physical violence is never right

    vs

He crossed the line by mocking the hurt within a family. He protected his family

    What do you guys think?

    original post: here

    1. 2, first of all, he crossed the line

    2. 2, family isn't something you can touch

    3. If they were the ones involved, it would've turned their insides upside down so how is he supposed to endure a mockery about his family?

    4. These people are saying such f*cking bullsh*t. He should've just hit him until he passed out

    5. Joking about a sick family member is so f*cked up. Their country is obsessed with looking cool

    6. If they asked that to Koreans, the majority will say that he deserved it

    7. I found it refreshing. They are bullsh*tting about freedom of expression. But if it was really "free", then he should take responsibility for his words too

    8. 222 verbal abuse is also abuse

    9. He deserved it though

    10. They think that they look so coolㅋㅋㅋㅋ I hope that these f*ckers who are bashing Will Smith get hit too

    1. The difference between the US and our country's reactions is interesting. The US seems to put more importance on physical violence

    2. What about verbal abuse?

    3. They are ok with those p*do f*ckers who s*xually harassed underaged kids while being against someone who snapped another person for mocking his wife. This is the most f*cked up awards ceremony

    4. But the insults that Will and his wife received were also violence...?

    5. This is just like a country who thinks that cursing at someone is part of the freedom of speech

    6. So if I f*cking verbally abuse someone, they won't consider it as violence in real life huh........

    7. Then what form are you talking about? What about verbal abuse?

    8. Are they a f*cked up ceremony?

    9. F*cking f*ckers

    10. Looks like they are ok with racism and verbal abuse..

    2. Who cares... about you?

    3. They are saying this like he did something great;

    4. Will Smith should've been the one sueing

    5. Apologize instead

    6. If it was not a black family who got treated like this, they would' been making a fuss but I find it surprising that the family ended up receiving the hate...

    7. Apologize

    8. Wow this f*cker is totally hopeless... learn about your wrongs and go... sigh, this bast*rd is sick..

    9. Disgusting

    10. I'm seriously so f*cking sick and tired about Americans trying to act so coolㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ f*ck, and he thinks that he's the one who got assaulted?ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

    Desbundar

  • The joke wasn’t even that bad, everyone’s acting like he said he hopes she dies in a car accident or something.

Will smith’s cool with dudes fucking his wife but don’t you dare make a joke about her hair 😡😡

  • The joke wasn’t even that bad, everyone’s acting like he said he hopes she dies in a car accident or something.

Will smith’s cool with dudes fucking his wife but don’t you dare make a joke about her hair 😡😡

this is the context I'm not too familiar with

but she either cheated on him with someone else or they have an open marriage kind of thing

  • The joke wasn’t even that bad, everyone’s acting like he said he hopes she dies in a car accident or something.

You are disgusting, literally disgusting. What his wife does on their supposed open relationship doesn't give you ( a f-ing internet loser) the right to talk about her like this neither to try to make such a ridiculous joke.

You are unnecessary, disgusting and unfunny.

  • I was surprised tbh, but idk, maybe her hair loss was a really difficult thing for her to deal and Will saw the hardship and stress she went through and thought: "this mf want to joke about something my wife suffered/suffers so much?" type of thing.

will was laughing hard at the joke too

and no it wasnt an offensive joke either, nor was it about her disease, it was simply about her being bald at that moment

    clearly extremely staged

and the people getting emotionally invested in this are the real fools

  • I can't believe people are supporting Will on this, it's 100% reasonable for him to be pissed off about the joke but to punch somebody on the face on live television is just not it. Was the joke a little mean considering she is probably insecure about it? Yes but this was too much.

Nonetheless The Oscars should give him a life time award for the publicity he's giving them, this clip is everywhere :clown::clown::clown:

  • But her being bald was bc of her disease so the connection is here.

If it was staged why is his award being reviewed and possibly being taking away?? Bc if it was staged they need to say it.

  • will smith is so crazy. I don't care about the joke, yes it was bad, but everybody (including will) was laughing, they are grown adults, if she was mad at the joke, she and will could have handled that backstage, always be the bigger person, you don't embarrass yourself and go and slap somebody on live telly. I hope nobody hires will smith again because he and his family are a mess.

people agreeing with will are just as crazy as he is. didn't you learn in school that violence was never the answer? he ruined the oscars for me after that. the whole show was just awkward and embarrassing after.

    i have no idea

ive never paid any attention to oscars or will smith or chris rock

but the fact that he himself was laughing at it at first makes it suspicious

not to mention, no matter how offensive the joke was ( and this one was far from too much ), going up to stage and hitting a person just to "show your dominance" is even more disgusting behavior

not to mention, this action guaranteed that a small joke that would be forgotten in 2 minutes will now make his wife the target of jokes for years ( and purely because of him, not because of Chris Rock )

how many comedians is he gonna hit?

  • There is a reason why this is blowing up...it isn't staged.

I will be honest here and say that i won't condemn Will as people here trying to even cancel his career, it was bad? Sure, but idk what happened and what they went through but seeing his reaction i can just say that it's a sensitive subject and people should learn not to joke about people's diseases. It's ugly.

comedians use the audience for jokes all the time

i dont know if chris rock or hart or whatever he's called even knew what the disease is, cause i sure didnt and i doubt many people did either

it could have been solved backstage politely or even called out by will on stage in a stern but sophisticated way

what he did was 100x more offensive

  • Idk why he did it, but let's see how this will solve. Probably they'll talk it through.

  • After watching this clip, I don’t think I will want to be on this dude’s side not that I was ever.

  • Joke was tasteless. Will Smith slapping Chris Rock was tasteless.

It was bad either way. The Academy should have run the joke by Jada before Chris Rock said it. I get it, comedians are comedians, but if you are trying to be a classy event, then you should handle yourself with class.

It was not Chris Rock's personal show. He was MCing the event and disrespected the wife of one of the nominees. Not his first time going hard after Jada either, which makes this even more suspicious. Does he hate that woman or something? Guess Will Smith said, if you're going to humiliate my wife on national tv, I will humiliate you as well. Slapping him screams male toxicity to me though.

  • on neither's side. One made a disrespectful joke without taking consent of the person on whom the joke was made, and another was straight up doing physical abuse on worldwide television.

I can't imagine such an incident taking place on an award show like Oscars, if it's not a publicity stunt. That would be hella embarrassing for both of them.

  • Probably staged. The joke wasn't that bad and even if Will was genuinely mad, why go up on stage and slap him? Why not do it backstage or something? The viewing figures have been getting lower and lower and now everyone is talking about the Oscars :wellr:

  • how many comedians is he gonna hit?

He just created a lot of material. Most comedians will be on Chris Rock's side because allowing an audience member to hit a comedian for doing what is essentially considered part their job (tasteless roasting) sets a bad precedent.

The knets who agree with type of behavior are butt hurt, unhinged, and uncivilized.

    agreed

im not a fan of roasting sometimes, but if pulled off well it can be really funny

but regardless, i wouldnt dare personally attack a comedian for whom its their freaking livelihood

  • I'm on Will's side, whenever someone says shit about a person you love that struggled with something serious makes you blood boil, even so something that is so sensitive to woman like their hair. And it's not even like he assaulted the guy, it was just a bitch slap, people literally cheer over moments like this in movies/series lmao

A little bit off topic but I've noticed that most people out from US think he was resonable and people from US think he crossed the line (I'm generalizing but that's how I saw it till now), I wonder if it has to do with cultural differences

  • Just to add another note from a North American perspective:

Chris Rock didn't press charges because he kind of knows that "If you talk shit, you get hit." But I don't think he was expecting it to happen at the Oscars with all the fancy dresses with the over the top trains and ruching.

  • I noticed this too. It’s only the certain demographic that calls this crossing the line. it’s interesting to see the difference in responses to this globally

Anecdotal but there was a tweet saying that the majority of people from the US thought Will Smith did more harm while the majority of people from Latin American countries thought Chris Rock did more harm.

I am actually substituting with 'did more harm.'
