Do you care about lyrics for kpop songs?

Depends on the group and theme. I don't read lyrics about love, romance, etc. But those about mental health, comfort, encouragement, frustrations, the problems surrounding coming-of-age, etc, I get interested and read them.
I'm invested at reading plenty of Stray Kids' lyrics for example, but that's because + 90% of them aren't about romantic relationships.

Never.
I wouldn't care if someone was singing about sitting on the toilet if the song was a banger in every other way.

What I dont like about lyrics argument some people think the lyrics has to be about social issues, hardships etc for it be good meaningful. Songs about love, longing, break up or comfort arent any less worthy
Ah yes...

Yes. I do in fact check the lyrics. Recently, A lot.
does it change my opinion about the song? NOPE.
Also, Lyrics are up to interpretation... So its based on how intelligent an individual is.
Just like Rain said,
I don't like when people reduce the meaning of the song if it isn't about Social issues, Mental health or hardships etc...
Lot of it is just being selective... I have seen so much double standards regarding this lyrics topic... That's it's baffling.
Like SuperM was dragged to hell and back for singing about inspirations, drive, willpower, comfort, hope and ambition....
This all "woke" bullshit is getting tiring for me.
In reality, it all comes down to WHO is singing rather WHAT is being sung.
-
Very much so.

I think meaningful lyrics enhance the experience of listening to music.
And for me, rubbish lyrics spoil the experience.
Example: I couldn't enjoy Dynamite, because of the quality of lyrics.
However could enjoy the music alone.
If I particularly enjoy the song, the lyrics are in Korean, I do check out the meaning using translations.
But maybe I shouldn't, because often the lyrics are well.. Pedestrian or junk.
Perhaps that's why I prefer IU, she relatively doesn't disappoint in her lyrics, even if the song is average.
-
Yes it's part of the song. I don't understand Korean but I'm still looking for lyrics translation for my favs. It allows me to understand the theme and the message that the song seeks to convey. Songs become better when you know the meaning of the lyrics. Listening to artists like MMM or IU without knowing the meaning of the lyrics is losing a lot, on the other hand if you listen to this kind of song :

not really. i mean, the primary reason i listen to kpop is to escape how cringe lyrics can be. but sometimes if i come across the lyrics of the song, i may like them.
also they needn't be "sad" or "deep" for me to like them. view has excellent lyrics (i adore synesthetic imagery!), but it's a love song. and sometimes there are lyrics i find funny (상상 속 난 Ariana Grande // 누가 볼 땐 어머 쟤 또 왜 그런대 will always be iconic)

Now that I'm learning Korean (and at the point where I can understand a fair bit of most stuff), I've basically been forced to care about Korean lyrics. Usually I don't really pay attention to them, though, (I have to pay attention to really understand lyrics and a lot of the time I'm not doing that with music) but it is a nice bonus when the lyrics are good. As the mythical Korean speaker here, now, I should probably make a thread on lyrics I think are nice - I have a fair few of them. Still, lyrics aren't the most important aspect of me liking a song - it's always been the music for me, but maybe I'm just saying that because I haven't found a song whose lyrics I absolutely hate yet.
-
Yes. I always check the lyrics.
-
Tbh, I only pay attention to/check out BTS, Stray Kids and Taylor Swift's lyrics from my faves.
