are 3rd gen groups enjoying better longevity than 2nd gen groups?

part of it its bc ggs ( the ones surviving) were able to form a fandom but this so far just applies to rv,bp and twice; ggs from the big3

gfriend disbaned, mamamo is ignored, who else...idk

bg dont count bc they always outlive ggs, like bb being able to cmb, super junior being ...there, highlight having a cmb literally today prove it

I honestly believe the 3rd gen fandom is bigger than 2nd gen especially bcoz of the globalization of kpop that

there's a lot of international fans who are much more loyal and willing to spend huge amount of money

Why would you disband/break up the group if they're still selling well?

Most of the top 3rd gen groups sales are still outdoing their previous comebacks sales so the profts is

yes BGs now have more sales but individual members are really unknown in Korea in general compare to 2nd gen

I think its pretty similar though? SNSD, Wonder girls, Kara, T-ara, 2ne1, Brown Eyed Girls, 4minute, Fx, Secret weren't they all active between 7 and 10 years? SISTAR disbanded faster I think (Miss A too). There's also Apink.

For boys, Suju, Bigbang, Shinee, 2PM, 2AM, TVXQ, Beast (Highlight), CNBLUE. Most of them are still active I think.

Hopefully more 3rd gen groups will go over the 10+ years.

Oh my girl, but their peak was late...

don't know about overall but the bigger labels/groups day seem to be around longer without slowing down.

2g had the 7 year curse where contracts where a harsh thing and even if you were successful if negotiations didn't go well it's game over. Seems things are big more lax now so groups are staying on longer.

Overseas fans are much bigger nowadays. They can buy more or have more concert opportunity so groups don't fully need to rely on Korea to determine their success. That helps with contacts.

It's the opposite with BTS. It appears that as BTS and their fanbase age with them, the sales kept increasing. Their merch, concert tickets and album sales are moving up every year. Although there is no lack of teen fans for them, there is quite a lot of financial stability with their mature fans. BTS will be firmly holding on to their status for a long, long time.

I think it’s really a reflection of the Kpop boom, so while some of those second gen acts are still surviving, as noted on this thread, the fanbase and sales can be very small. Shinee and SuJu certainly have very strong sales even compared to current groups, but a well recognized group like 2PM had lower album sales than a 3rd Gen mid-tier group sub-unit (Moonbin & Sanha, the Astro sub unit) and the solo debut single album of the main vocalist of a mid-tier group (Kihyun of Monsta X.)

It will be interesting to see what sales will be like for third Gen groups in another three years..

Sadly, I wouldn’t say GG are going strong….they’re technically together but in permanent hiatus status. I feel like only Taeyeon has a full time successful music career, the rest are just doing other stuff.

Besides them, I’m not sure if any other 2nd gen girl group are active like that.
