It's a confusing line, I think. Is their "debut" when they first had a solo song on one of their group's albums, or is it when they released and promoted a standalone single?

hm yeah i guess it's a little weird to call them soloists even if they're doing solo promotions. unless their group is disbanded or on a longterm hiatus or smth, they should be a group member and not a soloist

But their success is obviously due to the group reputation and the fandom.
It takes time to for their soloist success to be separate from their group's.
At this point Taeyeon is a successful soloist by her own right.
But BTS, Blackpink, Izone .. well nobody is fooled that the success is not same as from the group fandoms.
Nevertheless, it is not by success these things should be measured, but by performance. So yes they are soloist.

Out of the above I only count Lee Jieun as a soloist since the others used to be part of a group
I do not count the solo albums of various BP members separately since the group is still there.

But i’d say just releasing a solo song doesn’t make you a soloist, i think you actually need to have promotion by yourself to be officially a soloist. Which to me, means a promoted single or album.
If any individual releases music separately in any capacity that is commercially available, the song and as well as any charting/achievements/notable events that occurs will be credited to solely to that individual, not their group.
So we can say whatever we want and debate this point ad nauseam, but in the eyes of the actual music industry, they are considered soloists at that point, so yes, they are soloists.

Just asking since there have been instances of bands getting back together in the past... Usually cause of unsuccessful solo careers, but some for nostalgia, or the group made up and they went on to release more albums as a group, etc.
My point is that the line is not black and white so we'd be hard-pressed to try to apply these conditions to them. It's far more fluid as the past has proven. The music industry had chosen to go with who can be credited by using the artist(s) that released it and calling them soloists as a result. I think it makes the most sense for all the situations that crop up.
they are still soloists to me, Jinhyuk/Wei and Wooseok/Wooshin release solo albums and Top Media's dumb ass won't bring them back to the group despite produce x1 being over with the vote manipulation. I don't know if it's because they giving them solos equivalent to the 2 1/2 years they would have been gone in x1 or if Top Media is just stupid as shit. Either way, they haven't been back to the group in 4 comebacks so, tech they are soloists.

My crystal ball is on POINT here and I already know exactly how it will go. The narrative will be that the fandom is big enough to support all of them indefinitely even if they all go solo, so it's still fandom power and none of them are really as popular on their own...
Meanwhile the masses of solos will still be bitching about which BTS member eclipses the rest of the group.

Well nobody knows the future.
But I agree that at least for the initial years, there will be comments either way.
To transcend them will take time.
The other factor is Taeyeon even while in SoShi had the vocalist reputation out distancing others in the group, whereas BTS has ensured more balance between the members, which is good for the group, but not helpful for the individual..
So far.
Of course that might change in the future.
Rather than BTS, where it has not happened, Izone is better example, will Yuri, Eunbi succeed beyond Wizone fandom, we will know soon enough.

from your logic, the only soloist in your list is IU as all others were in groups too.
being a solo artist means that the artist is making music alone, so why would they not be soloists?

Group+Soloist aren't on the same playing ground with Solo-soloists.
