My honest opinion about 2nd gen music
-
-
There were some good songs.
Maybe even as many as ten of them.
-
kpop music was never and won't ever be profound

Tell that to 2nd gen Stans

2nd gen supremacists are annoying af.

It's hit or miss just like any era of music.

It’s basically a bias. You only remember the good things from the past but in the present you’re consuming both the good and the bad so it feels like the present is worse lol.
-
I listened to a lot of albums from 2nd generation groups, since I don't like to give an opinion about something I have no knowledge on. And my perception is that the quality of the albums improved in the third and fourth generation.
There are exceptions, but most albums I've listened done in 00s or early 10s had well produced title tracks and overall bad/fillers b-sides. And most albums I've listened from 2nd generation groups I've liked were done in mid-10s during the third generation, when, as I said, the concern about creating an overall great album improved. -

It's not supposed to be profound, it's fun catchy pop music lmao
It did have some truly amazing songs though, they just might not be your style doesn't make them bad

So yeah they do consider it profound enough to shit on newer music

Spot on. The further you get from it, the less you remember about the bad. Any time I depend on something like a radio station that only plays a certain time period or a premade playlist of something like 80s music I'm just like "oh yeah this was shit." when certain songs come on.
-
well, everyone has their own music taste. I prefer 2nd gen music
-
well it's good for me
It’s okay i don’t discriminate against people with bad taste

Are you not being a hypocrite right now by insulting 2nd gen music then? I've also seen a lot 3rd/4th gen stans shit on 2nd gen music and discredit/undervalue the groups' achievements/importance so lets not play that game of whose the bigger asshole because all ages of kpop fans are lmao
Theres always going to be people who are convinced their era of music is the best. Rock was shit on by older generations and now older rock fans shit on new music. It's a cycle but that doesn't make the music from before bad just because it doesn't suit newer tastes, just how newer music not fitting older tastes doesn't make it bad
This whole thread's an awful take and very biased
-
i think it wasn't necessarily worse or better than today in general, but i have to admit that the classics that still get brought up to this day i find incredibly overrated
-
Because y'all haven't listened to my faves

Yeah, kinda reminds me of this condescending self important senile boomer on here who constantly goes on the same rants about how local music was so much better in the 80s.

I love a huge chunk of 2nd gen music

Same.

Imo 2000 - 2010 had the most terrible music, not only in kpop, but in the west too.

While i generally agree, there are a few notable exceptions.
Taylor Swift's early work on Fearless and Speak Now is legendary.
And who can forget the classics from the last great American rock band? (Warning before you listen to this fucking amazing song, turn your volume down, the gain on the audio for this video was set way too high holy hell)

it depends
i think ballads and even more soulful pop songs (haru haru/lies, itnw, lonely (2ne1)) etc were much better, or more raw at that point and that sort of died mid transition to third gen (so early 3rd gen groups like bts/exo still have that edge to them sometimes)
however mainstream pop has evolved a lot from the weird autotune and noisy backtracks of that time, so groups that experimented with some sounds (eg: f(x)), or stuck to concepts that havent changed too much (k-hiphop like bigbang) are still quite listenable, but definitely not as enjoyable as back when everything about it's production was the mainstream style.
that's why 2ne1's music or f(x)'s music can be hit or miss, but groups like t-ara, super junior and kara havent aged as well except for a few famous hits.
2nd gen music from 2014-2016 is just amazing, and still fits todays standards very well (shinee's view, bigbangs made series, 2ne1's come back home, sistar's discography from that period etc)
i think the music really depends on the genre, who released it, and when they released it

i want to disagree because I often listen to western 00s-10s music much more than the newer, but I'm not interested enough in western music nowdays apart from taylor's discography to say if its really worse or the problem is just me not having interest
i love the rock and r&b sound that was popular this decade -

This is so true. For almost all genres I can think of.
A very dark period of history
-
There are a few gems from that era but overall imo it's not thaaat good.
This is coming from someone who listened to Kpop during the 2nd gen as well, a lot of it is purely nostalgic. If I had never listened to most of these songs before and listened to them today, I would probably think they're okay to bad.

2nd gen has bops but I'm actually just here to farm akorns for the guild bank

I liked a good amount of songs from 2nd gen. Not enough to stan any of the groups though. But I haven't listened to any bsides. I only listened to title tracks.
One of my personal favorites is Tara's Time To Love
It is also my first 2nd gen song.
