Difference between Opinion and Shade

  • From observing all the threads on akp I have finally come to the answer everyone is looking for :froghype:

If a non-fan says something negative about your faves: shade

If you say something negative about your non-faves: Opinion/fact

    :pepe-use-head:

A lot of AKPians follow this policy :pepe-tea:

  • Some people: if you don’t like something just move on and don’t talk about it, no one wants to read your essays

Also those same people: your fav sucks, they’re talentless, they don’t work hard, it’s not OrGaNiC, your faves are flops look at my faves achievements, the music critic 47 year old Bob from Alabama said my faves are better than yours so his opinion is obvs more valid because it fits my narrative hahaha

Some tell me this bc i always write essays... But you are right kkkkk

Lol people also choose to take facts as shade depending on whether they are giving it or not. It's the funniest thing to watch on akp people changing their narratives from one thread to another :smirks2:

  • Let me complete it for you.

    • If a non-fan says something negative about your faves: shade
    • If you say something negative about your non-faves: opinion/fact
    • If a fan says something negative about your faves: blasphemy

Thanks for listening to my ted talk.

Yeah I don’t see facts as shade but the way someone phrases things can make it seem like they’re using that fact to shades others.

I don't want to talk about blasphemy and gospels here :boredr:

  • I think it is easier to play the victim when someone from a different fandoms says something negative. But not everyone is like that and many people can accept a different opinion. Not everyone but sometimes you have to play with the kids.

  • Might be just ruining the fun here, but for me shade is when someone doesn't have the guts to express their negative opinion, so they present it in a roundabout way that gets the message through but still won't directly implicate them in an objective manner.

For example, when an idol that's not conventionally good looking debuts and knetz say "they must be really talented". That's just a shady way to call them ugly, without saying it and which leaves you a way out in case you get called out. I used this example because I have literally seen it happen lol.

Another example would be describing a certain group or a fandom in a very obvious and negative way without directly naming them. Or giving backhanded compliments or congratulations to groups when they achieve something. When NCT sold 2M copies with one album I literally saw a poster say "congratulations I guess *insert a shrugging emoji here*", I was like ????

Do yeah, it's any and every negative sentiment or opinion that's expressed indirectly or alluded to. I would never call shade someone who's openly expressing a negative opinion about an artist or a song.

  • I think it's interesting how people can easily throw shade at any artist other than a KPOP or JPOP artist...like I've seen some pretty nasty stuff said about some western artists and no one cares but if you said the same thing about someone's k-jpop faves here, they will get mad.

Which is understandable because this forum is full of kpop fans and not necessarily western pop and other genres/industries.

  • onventionally good looking debuts and knetz say "they must be really talented".

I probably would never take this as shade unless I know the ops history.

I only wrote shade but I also mean dragging here. I thought it was implied my bad.

People are too quick to take anything as dragging to their faves but will say the same thing or even worse about others as their opinions or facts. Giving yourself always a benefit of doubt while giving others none.

Well yes. People either feel it's useless to get into arguments about their western faves here ig. Or maybe western fans don't really defend their artists to the same degree due to less emotional connection on here? Could be anything

Maybe...and kpop fans are REALLY connected to their faves, it's like they know them or something. I haven't seen that same connection with western fans and their faves.

I know it's shade because of how often I saw knetz use that expression and the kind of reactions they get.

About the rest of your post, I agree wholeheartedly. It's something that I'm most likely guilty of too :pepecute:

    I don't agree.

There is a big difference between saying, "I'm not feeling this particular song." and "This song is a piece of crap and these people can't sing."

Not liking a song and saying so is not, by itself, shade. The shade comes in when you make sweeping negative statements that usually reveal your negative feeling about the group as a whole.

Now - are there some who can't tell the difference? Sure, but I think most can.

  • That's knowing history ig lol

I think the first time I encountered such a comment was when Shindong talked about it in a show. He said that when he was first introduced as an idol there were many comments such as "he must have been chosen for his vocals lol" and then the other people present in the show and him kept talking about how people always expect idols to be attractive and once they're not, they leave those comments to indirectly tell them they're ugly. Then I started noticing those comments myself in Netizenbuzz and similar sites.

So I guess it's truly about knowing history :cryingr:

  • Now - are there some who can't tell the difference? Sure, but I think most can.

I don't doubt that especially when it's on forums like akp where we know each others history.

I'm more talking about how individuals behave? If that makes sense lol

Here's my way of explaining it better what I mean in the op.

People are too quick to take anything as dragging to their faves but will say the same thing or even worse about others as their opinions or facts. Giving yourself always a benefit of doubt while giving others none.

Well that's just called being a hypocrite! 8o

  • I think it goes both ways. No one is gonna take opinions seriously from people who have made questionable remarks before. There are some users here I mostly ignore anything they say and there are some who are non fans but they still make opinions whether negative or positive about my faves respectfully

So it really depends on the kind of person who is making an opinion, doesn’t really have to be a fan or non fan.

Also people here should learn to draw the line between facts and opinions. Some people have opinions they expect everyone to see from their point of view.

You can have an opinion but it does not mean everyone will agree with you. We TOLERATE opinions here not ACCEPT opinions.

If you wanna pass your opinion on as facts then attach substantial evidence, that’s how it works.

Lol I don't know about that. I once wrote something negative about Coldplay and damn, it felt like everyone and their mother came out of the woodwork as a Coldplay fan. I'm sorry! I just don't like Coldplay. I stopped listening to them in like 2010, dang.

Yikes...there was a negative thread about Olivia Rodrigo and every reply was hating on her and no one cared. I've seen hate for Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, Billie Eilish and Camila Cabello on akp too...

I haven't seen the others, but yeah, I don't think Biebs is very popular here.

Overall tho, I agree with you. I think kpop fans have more of an emotional attachment to their faves than western fans do. It leads them to taking criticism of their faves very personally and being overprotective. The level of emotional investment kpop stans have is kinda fascinating. i honestly feel like people should take a step back sometimes.

Lmao If some people here saw the kind of things I say about my own faves :zipr:

The kind of emotional attachement where you feel obligated to defend your faves against any and everyone just because they don't like them can't possibly be healthy. Like, imagine fighting with someone in real life because they said something bad about a song you're listening to :cryingr:

  • BTS releases a lot of music and content throughout the year. You have absolute right to give an opinion. I don’t like this song for this reason or that and that is totally fine. If you come into every single thread about BTS and their music and keep saying the same negative shit over and over and make multiple posts on not liking their songs or musical direction this gets into shade. Why ruin it for others. BTS could save a kitten stuck in a tree and there are some here who would bitch they weren’t fast enough getting there

Same with achievement threads. If you don’t like BTS, their music why come in and post some snarky shit. We get and we know the posters who don’t like BTS. Put down the damn frying pan and stop beating us over the head with it. Go spread positive energy to the artists you love
