Why are fans so heavily against chaebols becoming idols?
-

-

in part but also because being a kpop idol can be a stepping stone for the poorer people to get out of their situation and they see it as unfair
also even if the chaebol is "talented" - the question is that they didn't face the necessary hardship to get there...now I'm not saying those people didn't work hard (maybe they did maybe it's was nepotism who knows) but compared to the average or less fortunate person they got it way easier...
assuming ceteris paribus in terms of talents the richer person can afford better lessons, better food, better accommodations, better everything (and this is even prior to becoming a trainee) - the poorer person cannot and maybe the most important thing - the richer person can afford to FAIL and fail and fail again whereas the poorer person cannot...
-
Rich people achieving prominent positions in society? Pure talent of course.
-
-
BAD :
"It's not right for the children of the chaebol to take undeserved positions."
GOOD :
No problem when talentless idol, who's randomly recruited in the street or at a concert because she's pretty, gets into the biggest agencies. There's also no problem when 4 company crush everything and lock down the market. Everything is fair.
BAD :
"Chaebol so mean, evil people"
GOOD :
French billionaire

Do we need trump kid to debut in a kpop group for u to get the analogy
-
49 groups debuted in 2024. 61 groups debuted in 2023. There's plenty of spots.
-
If we hate companies and scream payola to every kpop company it's the same thing for me with chaebols. Like I have to think that a member of the Samsung family and her group is doing amazing because of hard work, talent, luck, good music or something like that? Don't make me laugh.
To me they represent the same as other companies, in this case I hate them as I hate YG, SM, Hybe, Cube...

do people forgot annietrained for like 5 years ? alot of people can just buy a spot . hell she doesnt even got picked for meovv lineup. there's alot of things she can do considering her power but she didnt do it. so im not gonna undermine her effort just coz shes a chaebol.
hell, in regular life you see alot of people not that rich got upset and throw a tantrum for less.

for me personally, it was just funny seeing people call annie inspiring for "standing against what her family wanted her to do and instead following her passion"... as if that isn't what the majority if idols do regardless of financial background. it just seemed like praise simply because she is a chaebol. it doesn't make me hate her specifically, though. she cant control the praise she gets. i just dislike the group as a whole.
for some that i have seen, it is a class issue. chaebols are not your average rich person. they're not even like bts jin or itzy lia (i think?) who come from wealthy backgrounds. we're talking about one of a select few families that are part of an insane conglomerate. a conglomerate known for shady practices and taking advantage of lower tier employees. unfathomable amounts of money. while annie didn't ask to be born into this, for some people she serves as an unfortunate reminder of how unfair this world is. how her family partakes in the class divide and abuses the poor. again, not directly annie's fault, but she tends to stick out like a sore thumb - even amongst other wealthy idols.

which idol is a french billionaire

which idol is a french billionaire
You mean wich idol fuck with a french billionaire ?
-
I understand this but at the same time, it's a bit of an outdated thought.
The fact is the idols that grew up in poverty and struggled to succeed are a thing of the past atp. Most of the big 4 are debuting idols that come from wealthy families.
People like Sooyoung, Jin, Yura and Wendy used to stand out for coming from wealthy, now that's the norm. People like IU, Yunho, etc used to be inspirational stories, now idols like Riize Sohee get mocked for being poor.
People just idolize the wealthy more than the hardworking average person. The same company that debuted Annie worked hard to rebrand Somi to the point you'd never know she grew up in a trailer.

This has to be the most accurate reply here.
This is exactly why people don't want chaebol kids in kpop.
It's a GRIM reminder of what is so horribly wrong in S Korea.

Damn. I had no idea Somi grew up in a trailer!?

You're the kind of person my very first post on this topic is aimed at.

yeah, she grew up in a trailer in Cheongdam.

Well, she was at least made in one
ummmm

Do you know she posted a topless pic of her dad and called him sexy once

nah you're just being dumb...
systemic unfairness in kpop : valid discussion
lisa dating a billionaire : irrelevant derailment
lisa dating a billionaire has zero bearing on her career trajectory, lisa’s career was not built on dating a billionaire. she does have big 4 privilege though, which i never denied

also not you acting like she gets defended for it when she mostly receives misogynistic comments about being a gold digger or being "funded" by him

nah you're just being dumb...
Saying that when you clearly didn't understand my posts it's quitte funny, given the completely off-the-wall way you responded, focusing on Lisa, even though that was never my primary intention.
lisa dating a billionaire has zero bearing on her career trajectory, lisa’s career was not built on dating a billionaire.
But let's play your game since you want to focus the debate on her.
Who said that in this thread? No one.
I could waste my time listing all of Lisa's appearances on French TV or newspaper articles that belong to the Arnault family or events that the family has sponsored or participated in, but I'm not going to waste my time on that and just stick your nose in your own shit.
Look, I'll even give you a color code since you obviously have difficulty understanding, you'll be able to follow step by step.
Ready ?
This is where the "derailment" that isn't one begins before the super user who doesn't understand 3 words arrives :

Now attention please, extreme concentration exercise, try to read and understand the red box.
Normally everyone here has understood, except you, given your brilliant answers, so I'm going to help you.
"one of a select few families that are part of an insane conglomerate"
"a conglomerate known for shady practices"
"taking advantage of lower tier employees"
"unfathomable amounts of money"
"her family partakes in the class divide and abuses the poor"
Okay, are you starting to understand the theme?
Now read the box in blue.
So here we are in a situation where the message denounces in a sarcastic form. Wait a moment, I went to get you the definition to help you with your comprehension problems.
Sarcasm is the caustic use of words, often in a humorous way, to mock someone or something.Sarcasm may employ ambivalence, and is also commonly associated with, though it does not necessarily contain, irony. Most noticeable in speech, sarcasm is mainly distinguished by the inflection with which it is spoken or, with an undercurrent of irony, by the extreme disproportion of the comment to the situation, and is largely context-dependent.
So I was saying that we are in a sarcastic denunciation of the indignation of Kpop fans towards the practices of South Korean billionaires but turn a blind eye to those of foreign billionaires linked to Kpop idols.
Everything Kahei says here about the Korean chaebols is true, but all their wrongdoings are also carried out every day by the Arnault family and all the other billionaires.
So say this:
frederic arnault is not an idol. and lisa did not debut or even reach her level of success by dating him
or that :
lisa dating a billionaire has zero bearing on her career trajectory, lisa’s career was not built on dating a billionaire.
or even this :
also not you acting like she gets defended for it when she mostly receives misogynistic comments about being a gold digger or being "funded" by him
So we can see that you are completely off topic. And This proves that you didn't understand anything about my post.
I hope this is clearer for you Einstein.
