I think the rush of 4.5th gen debuts will create an overkill

Especially since the youth population in SK is declining due to low birth rates. Schools had to close. The percentage of children debuting as idols is definitely increasing.

Babymonster is doing well.

They have two moderate hits in SK. Sheesh top10, Drip peaked at #11, few months after its release.

And their global spotify numbers look very good, and on top of that, YT music (not YT views only).

They are having their world tour soon.

They're on the right track. In fact, they look the most promising out of the ones that already debut

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks way too many groups are debuting at the same time.

The thing is since 3rd and 4th gen groups are still active, thriving and in their prime, the newer 5th gen group will receive less attention and their debut will have less hype.

Waiting 1 or 2 years would be the better decision imo. Besides, a lot of 5th gen gg are very young anyway.

The thing is babym is more popular than most kpop groups they aren’t flopping but they aren’t doing what their seniors achieved I don’t say they’ll not become more popular but when you’re from the big4 people or even companies have higher standards

I think the reason is that groups are staying around for longer than previous generations which means new generations not only have compete with each other but also the prior generations

At best you could say she missed with Itzy, but then Palette was still very new and they still popular.

I think it’s Fomo! Companies see others bring out new groups that the public eat up and brings in more money

It’s also harder to try new things with an old group than to bring a new group with minimal to no expectations of them

I wouldn’t count Illit or any 5th gen group as the top group yet! Unless Illit can recreate their success it’s way too soon! Their last comeback underperformed massively!

BM is showing consistent growth each comeback but they never had a hit yet. I think the first few groups in a new gen always receive attention but it’s harder to maintain as more groups debut.

Let’s just wait for all the groups to debut this year/next year and then we can see who the top groups will be!

I used to think that but now it's starting to remind me of 2nd gen so I feel like a renaissance is about to happen, a new generation of fans is tuning in. 4th gen groups will be considered old and nd 3 gen ancient legends like bigbang, Snsd, etc

And now everybody and their mother is a K-pop idol, we got 14 year olds who aren’t that talented debuting , Korea’s population is declining meaning there’s no real audience left in Korea,

Most are going to try chase other Asian validation or maybe western

3rd gen is still the most popular but their days are basically over, blackpink the biggest girl group in K-pop rn, are all basically now in America,

There’s definitely somewhat of a tiny space to full unless blackpink decides to comeback and take away the attention from everyone

They're still very popular as variety people today.

Ive started 4.5 gen as Izone's first daughter group, then came NMIXX, NJ, and LSRFM.

Illit, Baemon, Moew, Kisslife, Izna are considered 4.75 generation. Kiii or Heart could be the first 5th gen group, depending on who goes viral and becomes popular.

As for overkill, every year people say that yet every year, it's always a Kpop song that tops the charts. Trot, OSTs, hip hop, indie, no other genre can compete with Kpop popularity in Korean music charts.
