My biggest complaint about this era of K-Pop is that we don't get nearly enough content with different idol groups interacting and vibing with each other.
Some of my favorite content from 2nd and 3rd gen was when idols from different companies got to spend meaningful time together. I'm talking shows like Invincible Youth, Weekly Idol back during its peak popularity when it was @@@521d9196-870e-48ae-b1a4-956929a1f301@@@ idols wanted to appear on (even GD/Big Bang appeared once) or the joint season of Showtime with Mamamoo and GFriend.
We are STARVED for this kind of content today, which is why everyone got so excited over the few crumbs of Babyjeans content we got yesterday.
BUT, I will say this. Those shows are all scripted and directed.
When it comes to today's girl groups, I want to give them their flowers for how they have very publicly supported each other and openly cheer each other on in ways I rarely saw even in the previous generations.
First, we started lighthearted with the aespajeans content, right when the biggest scandal of the year started, and it was clear both groups were on that HYBE hitlist:
Then we have both members of StayC and (G)I-DLE getting emotional while NewJeans deliver their speech after winning the daesang at the KGMAs:
And then just the other night at the MMAs, when Soyeon announced that all the members of (G)I-DLE would be renewing their contracts, look at how members of both aespa and IVE reacted during the speech:
I don't know about you all, but I thought all of this was both heartwarming and wholesome, and it shows that while K-Pop can be a cutthroat competition, especially in the girl group space, there is also a sisterhood, and they are all each other's biggest fans.
Keep that in mind next time you think our petty fanwars ever warrant attacking the idols and idol groups themselves.
