Can anyone explain why Idle has been so successful in Korea?

50% of the time they have had almost very good songs. A very good song is a song that goes viral like Magnetic or Ditto.

The other 50% of the time, the 65 million USD that Kakao gave to Cube at the end of 2022 helps a lot.

The Produce shows?

women empowerment? I feel like their songs most catered to women and along with korea and most of asian countries going on feminism wave.

No, she wasn't the bully at all, she was witch hunted, and I really blame that sibling (sister? brother?) of that old school friend of hers, who made it her life's mission to destroy Soojin's career, out of sheer jealousy and spite. That person really deserves all the bad karma on her path for that completely unnecessary action.

History shows that most of the times, you need to have a smash hit that makes a strong, lasting impression on the general public.

Follow that up with fairly good/good enough songs and leaving agreeable to good impressions at the occasions the public gets to know the group better, and you're golden for a while.

This is really deserved imo. There arent a lot of girlgroups with the amount of creative input and control GIDLE have so they appear as a genuine representation of female empowerment.

At the top of that they also do have at times some good and interesting releases that stand out even in the oversaturated kpop scene.

Talent and Soyeon the hype was there they needed a good catchy song, hwaa was the starting point.

imo, one of the main reason for that is their "artist/self made group" image and branding.

They're known for producing their own songs and it's quit rare for GG.

it seems soyeon has a good grasp of the trends and gps taste??

everytime they release a mid song, they underperform. like with nude and super lady. maybe with klaxon as well...

but all the other times? they release literal soty typa tracks who have a stong cultural impact. like tomboy or queencard and even fate bside.

and there is no in between.

it's a group solely driven by their music and i would say by soyeon's talent as a producer/songwriter.

a rare feat truly.

i think part of it is that they went on so many korean shows. other top groups just occasionally go on some variety shows when its promo time but gidle went on many talent/survival shows. soyeon especially

1. korean gp is a fickle beast - they can like a group's song one day and totally not like the next comeback

2. thus any song released by any group runs the risk that it just isn't the Korean GP's cup of tea. It doesn't matter if you've had hit after hit - sometimes the song is just not it

3. for most groups whether a song will be "popular or not" (not good or bad - the goodness or badness of a song is subjective) is really mostly a matter of luck.

4. Bigger and more established and well know groups and groups that have successful songs in the past get more recognition and at least initially more listens since people are more likely to at least give the song a shot because they are from big4 etc

now factors relevant to Gidle

- they've had successful songs in the past

- they have Soyeon who is a very well respected producer and one of the few female idols who produce/write/compose substantially for the TT
