What girl groups would have crushed a zero backtrack/100% live vocals set?

  • I don't think any group will, or can because zero backtrack will expose them especially with 1 hour non-stop show. LSF also got that "Hybe choreography" on top of that, and for that, they did well.

  • XG!!

    Interesting perspective.

At the very least, Nmixx have enough vocal talent to pull it off. I'm not sure how it would go if you add the intensity of LSF choreo, but raw vocals would let them shine.

I've been a quiet fan of StayC ever since someone linked me the clip from an outdoor performance where the sound system died and they just performed their song without any music. Respect. They'd be fine.

NewJeans I picked based on my Lolla experience. It was their best stage and set of their careers, and the first half was all hand mic and very very minimal backtrack.

I can't believe I left out Dreamcatcher for third gen though. What a blunder.

XG is a cheat code. We know they're a massive talent wall.

  • none? Except maybe the 2nd generation?... All these groups have something done in post-production, or in their microphones, or aututone or backtrack while performing...everything in kpop is altered in some extent to sound better

  • Updated your post

  • I see a lot of delulus lol..

I think people are in for a rude awakening if they truly believe their faves could actually adequately perform for a whole hour with absolutely zero backtrack AND having the type of intensive choreo that lesserafim does. Stamina alone would be a huge issue, let alone vocal talents, which with zero backtrack would expose a lot of idols whose fans rn think should be safe, but actually aren’t :pepe-cringe: and i’m not just talking about the top groups but the smaller ones too. There are A LOT of idols whose merits are not vocals first but still got added into their lineup for “reasons”, which i’m not gonna get into here.

The point is there are very, very few idols who can confidently pull off this feat, if they were to perform with lesserafim’s level of choreo. Which is not a knock on them, bc lesserafim’s choreos are stupidly complicated and strenuous in the first place, and that level of physical exertion was never conducive to live singing.

Well I never said they would be doing LSF choreo. Even Mamamoo wouldn't sound like Mamamoo if they had to do their songs while doing that insane choreo :meme-kek:

New jeans? New jeans blackpink they all fall under the category of reasonable but can’t survive without backtrack category.

    Depends.

If NewJeans aren't doing heavy choreo, like the first half of their Lollapalooza set, they'd be fine. They already proved that.

With choreo, you'd hear some stability issues from a couple members for sure, but it wouldn't be a disaster. They would survive.

  • I think their voices are quite shaky and their technique isn’t very great. So when you say survive it just doesn’t mean have that one performance I don’t think they have the skill set to actually sing live that consistently and not damage their vocals aka survive.

  • Delulu. Tragic

  • Well I never said they would be doing LSF choreo. Even Mamamoo wouldn't sound like Mamamoo if they had to do their songs while doing that insane choreo :meme-kek:

lol that’s true. But even then, with absolutely zero backtrack, i think most current idols would still struggle no matter their choreo level, simply bc they’ve been conditioned to loud backtracks/lip syncing for so long. It takes years of training to do live singing well, and even then without a certain level of raw talents you’d still mightily struggle with it. Now throw in idols of the current crop, most of which have never actually performed without a backtrack their entire career? Yeah that’s a recipe for disaster right there lol i’m not gonna hold my breath

  • I think their voices are quite shaky and their technique isn’t very great. So when you say survive it just doesn’t mean have that one performance I don’t think they have the skill set to actually sing live that consistently and not damage their vocals aka survive.

Their voices are fine, and they can very much handle their songs. I think saying they couldn't sing without backtrack without literally damaging their vocals is completely over the top :pepe-joy:

Danielle skillfully handled a song with a much bigger demand on her vocals than their usual songs

    They've only improved since then.

    Well, it's your opinion.

  • Actually these are the type of performances where you can see their lack of technique she’s straining so much.

I know holding a note itself is a high bar in kpop but good technique is what you require to consistently sing live and do it well

And I don’t think new jeans are capable of that nor do they have outstanding vocalists….. not even their main vocal is capable of that.

Holding a tune in a few performances with minimal backtrack =/= they can survive without backtrack.

  • I only can put my hands on fire for Nmixx on this (Im not saying other cant, i just dont know if they can) since i saw videos of them singing in concerts without backtrack. And i can really hear their voices, they change the notes, they do riffs and runs. A 100% live presentation, with flaws and everything. I believe with easy choreos and some ballads they can make a concert 100% live.

  • NewJeans don't need to be outstanding vocalists to sing their songs, just confident and competent vocalists, which they are.

I'm not going to argue vocal technique with you. Neither of us are running any vocal technique blogs last I checked :eyes:

You can have your opinion. I've heard NewJeans in person, with hand mics, choosing to focus on their vocals over choreo, and they were fine.

I'm not going to argue this anymore:pepe-shrug:

  • Sistar ended your faves

2nd generation is also a cheat code.

Most of them could do 100% live vocals in their sleep and did it often

  • Tbh, i would not trust in "its live" videos. I saw many groups doing great there but later in encores they are not that good (or not all the members are that good) . I Think there is some "help" post-production.

  • YamaChwan Watch. There is alot of difference between that "ITs live" and this.

  • I’m classically trained speak for yourself :pepe-joy:

Again holding a note in one or two performances is something many groups have done it doesn’t mean anything ;judgingpepe:

  • Thing about 2nd gen, you are forced to sing live even if you sound like a dying cow. That is bound to make you improve no matter what

2nd generation was a time where Lipsync was the exception and not the norm. I miss that standard.

In the context of this thread, dropping choreo to focus on vocals at a giant music festival was a mic drop moment for NJ. That's all I'm saying.

I'm not classically trained, but my ears know when they're hearing live vocals, especially when I'm only 30 ft from the artists ;judgingpepe:

NewJeans train constantly to improve their vocals and dancing. At least use an encore not from their debut era!

Ok, be honest. Listening this encore you would say this group can sing an entire show 100% live without backtrack?
Btw, congrats to the girls, seem like they improve.

  • Nmixx aespa babymon ?

I can see babymon do the lsfm choreo, aespa would struggle, no idea about nmixx

Babymonster for sure. I've never denied the talent level of that group, just the song quality (except for Like That)

If they don't do their choreo 100% of the time like Lollapalooza, yes. If they need to do all their choreo for every song, then they will need some backtrack.

LSF should've done the same. Well, I mean they did use hand mics for the first half, but they should've relaxed on the choreo a bit.

ADOR set up NJ for success, while Source kind of just set up LSF.
