you are correct, but im not wrong either
Waiting for melon to launch a propaganda of "do not let this country to be owned by foreign companies!!!!"
Tho having a yt subs that comes along with yt music premium seems like cheaper than having both yt and melon, or just melon.
Youtube already took the lead over sometime last year.
With the expansion of many groups globally, the local charts will become less and less relevant. Twice is the #1 active group now, but can't even get into the top 100 in Melon. Cupid was one of the global songs of the year, yet could only peak at #10 in Melon.
We will most likely be quoting rankings on Billboard and global Spotify instead in 1-2 years.
Kakao has a lot to worry about (melon dau dip, webtoon business flopping, ftc on their @ss)
YouTube has taken a lot of market share, especially among the young generations.
Except YT Korea is very weak now too, for this current period.
The last week is 60% down on same week last year. 60% down on earlier this year.
Not disagreeing with the overall pattern, but October has no songs to hit any listeners, YT or Melon.
we been knew
youtube music is where is at
what is melon’s current market share?
There's some data in the digital thread. While Melon is declining it's not the full picture because right now every single platform is at lower usage than around the same period last year, or ANY period last year for that matter. Even YT Music is having far lower streams for the top songs compared to last year.
what is melon’s current market share?
"YouTube Music surpasses Melon Music as the most used streaming platform on Android in South Korea"
Its most probably widened now.
Also only 3 months ago NJ were getting ~487K ULs organically with similar ballpark organic numbers earlier in the year. Its just no songs are viral at the moment.
Kakao must have bought over Youtube too the saegigigigi money coming in clutch
What's wrong with Melon? ![]()
I swear i read that either BB or Spotify is also showing declines in terms of either Hot 100 points or total Spotify streams (i cant remember exactly though).
Spotify is doing better than ever, they have almost half a billion users, even with the price hike.
I don't know about Billboard, but they change the way they count streaming every time someone finesses them too hard. That kinda doesn't matter, since they just benefit people they have business with anyway.
I think in the end out of all streaming services youtube will always lead. I don't use any other streaming services except youtube, it has the best selection of music.
It's the only music app that let me to stream this
rip u dead bish

According to this, music streaming is still growing.
"According to IFPI’s Global Music Report 2023, music streaming services grew by 10.3% in 2022.
This follows on from a 9% increase in the global music industry as a whole - an eighth successive year of growth."
But less than a quarter comes from paid music streaming services, most are from unpaid services (sites where you are served adds I suppose), So melon, Spotify premium, YouTube premium, they are less than 25% of the way we consume music.

android users already use youtube music already the most it's a matter of time when melon is gonna be surpassed
this is why I think people should take in considerations other platforms other than melon
