The Idol has officially flopped into not getting Season 2. Where is K-pop’s next Hollywood moment?

Changed the title of the thread from “The Idol has officially flopped into not getting Season 2. Where will kpop next” to “The Idol has officially flopped into not getting Season 2. Where is K-pop’s next Hollywood moment?”. -
Deserved.
As soon as they cast the Weeknd and let him take the reins (along with Levinson), it was doomed to fail.
I've never been so happy to see a show ridiculed and subject to utter failure.

Completely agree in regards to the Weeknd.
His acting was so terrible, but at the same time, good enough that it made him as a person just seem kind of gross and creepy. I'll never look at him the same lol. From now on, he's Tedros. Idc what anyone says.

I'm counting on Netflix. Netflix gave invested billions of US dollars into South Korea. It would be great if something could happen. That would be way more impactful than Hollywood. Hopefully, it could also be a wholesome series, not what this was.
I wanted to like The Weeknd, but he gives bad vibes with the way he glorifies a certain lifestyle in his music. I get it. The Weeknd is just a character and Abel is the man behind it all, but it's off-putting to hear lyrics that objectify women and fetishize Asian women. After the lazy clout-chasing attempt with lyrics that reference K-pop while fetishizing Korean women? No, thanks. He has some good songs, I'll give him that.

I've watched the idol and this show could have been so much more but it is what it is and I am not surprised.

I've wondered if the current Hollywood strike will provide a huge opportunity for Korean dramas and movies to be promoted more amongst the American mainstream. Even if they resolve the strike by December or whatever, it will be late 2024 probably before new episodes and new shows from Hollywood are ready to be aired...this void could theoretically be filled by content from non Hollywood productions

pretty sure everyone in that movie gets laid every day
exactly, the Weeknd’s character is pure incel fantasy
-
Even some of my trashy fanfics are better than The Idol.

Uhh… I think you’re missing the point here. This show was produced by a man who sings songs about the large amounts of women he has sexual relations with, not by an “incel,” but rather the polar opposite. So it’s pointless to use this show as an excuse to demonize celibate men.

I dunno maybe a semi-realistic look at the life of a kpop trainee/debutee/idol
could be done over many seasons - the trials and tribulations of the journey of a kpop idol (obviously it would be dramatised for effect and so forth but the underlying issues such as the harshness of the training days/weight management/monthly performances etc etc) can be shown

Not happening any time soon.
Jessica wrote books on that topic specifically and couldn't get any studios to pick it up because kpop isn't mainstream enough here
