Why now all idols are called "All rounder"?

For me needing to both sing and rap doesn’t make you an all rounder. That’s only needed if your group is more rap focused.

You need to both sing and dance at a high level that was always the definition of being an all rounder. Rap got added on. This definition only makes sense for group that indeed have a lot of rapping. You need to predominantly do the things your group is known for that’s what a definition of all rounder is to me.

New jeans is an all rounder group because everyone in that group does everything that’s important for New jeans. Jennie is indeed an all rounder for BP because she does everything that’s important for BP. Seulgi and Nayeon are also all rounders because they do all the important things for their groups which is singing and dancing really well as well.

Jennie is actually not that known for her dancing so she would be loose fit in this category for me. But her performance is high level and she does BP’s choreography really well so for BP she is indeed an all rounder.

I agree with this, especially since a lot of companies don't offer training and education in these areas in the past in the same way they do as a baseline requirement of dance and singing. Especially for girls.

I think it would be disadvantageous especially for women. Sometimes, some of them are even skilled in songwriting (both lyrics and composition), but they just don't receive the same opportunities as men. So how can they display their skills?

You have to be good or at least average at the category to be an all rounder. Like Jennie is an average rapper but is a weak below average singer. That disqualify her from being an all rounder.

Exactly and being fully fair it's reasonable to point out a GG can't really grow in the same way as a BG can without having hit music so it's more risky to let girl group members compose and produce or even train them to do so when you know you're 99% of the time going to be selecting professional, experienced industry veterans for that purpose...especially big 4 companies.

While for BG's it's more rare for them to be consistently digitally successful but can also grow enormous fandoms in spite of that in a way in which GG's can't ever do...so it's fines to let younger guys who have only been in the music business for a couple of years to produce and compose their own music as the expectations are lower in many ways on the companies part(in terms of digital performance) and the risk is much smaller.

Just looking at BG's who have never had a big hit song you have people who can sell millions and millions of albums while on the other end you have girl groups who can barely scrape 100k without hit music.

Agreed. Another point you don't mentioned is that, since boygroups and girlgroups are prepared to, mainly, reach different demographies, writing and producing their own music can be a selling point to market a male group to make them more interesting to stan due relatability aspect and growing their fandom.

On the other hand, It doesn't even make a diference for the general public If the singer behind the song composed It or not, as long as It's nice/catchy to listen to, since they are more attracted to the song itself than the interpret. So yes, It's better for them to not risk with the girls.

To bounce off what you say ISaidISaid , for me Seulgi is the Ace of Red Velvet but not an all rounder for example.

I feel the opposite all rounder has always been the one who can sing and dance at the same and do both really well. Only recently people keep adding rap to it since we have more rap groups now. Which makes sense before rap was mostly a filler thing.

Seulgi was always known as an all rounder since the forever same with taemin or Baekhyun.

Kai is an ace but not an all rounder for example. Ace and all rounder are not interchangeable imo.

I have always considered an idol as an all-rounder when they sing and dance well and are not just average at both. Mostly because Kpop rappers are a joke for a lot of them.

There are authentic all-rounders who can sing, dance and rap well but they are rare.

I consider Soyeon from IDLE an all rounder, she excels in singing, rap, dancing, stage presence, writing and composing her own group songs. Like the girl is mega talented and I think she's the best example of an all rounder in kpop.

Damn, why are you so bitter about aespa? Karina rap is good enough for an idol (not the best, but she does her job well), and she's a good dancer too, you seem like someone who just follow viral narratives, who aren't always the truth (people said snsd was only visuals and no talent back then, and we know now how great they are)

I agree with you, while sometimes I think excel a lot in dance and singing (like Seulgi, Jihyo) is more impressive than just doing good in the 3 categories.

Hyorin will always be that girl, no kpop idol can come close (and most artists too). Minzy is an incredible all-rounder too, main dancer and main vocal level, and a good idol rapper too. From 4th (or 5th, I don't care) idols, Gunwook is the one who impresses me the most, main dancer and main rapper level, and a good lead vocalist.
