It is interesting how there have definitely been like zero significantly impactful solo artists. And all the people you mentioned are tied to a group. There was nobody like IU who made a name for themselves without a group. You can probably find a handful of solo artists who do ballads, but none in the "Kpop" world

Hwasa's dip in popularity was so drastic it kinda blows my mind. Twit was popular, Maria was somehow even more popular (which usually doesn't happen after a successful debut), and then nobody listened to her last song. It was even a pretty good song too. And now she hasn't promoted solo for over a year. I'd be so confused if I was her.

Really you can say the same thing about Mamamoo too. Hip was like their biggest hit and then it was a dramatic slide down. I guess the competition got too fierce while they weren't promoting as frequently as a full team.

It went from “Nayeon won’t do well” to “Nayeon is a one-hit wonder” Nayeon has so many amazing achievements internationally and in Korea, she is definitely a successful soloist.

Jo Yuri will sell 1 million albums and top the charts in 2023 just you wait

Nah but IZ*ONE solos hardly flopped.. Yena/Yuri both entered melon top 100 with 2 releases and both have sold well over 200k already. Yena even charted in the top 10 (granted that Smartphone did not do as well). Selling 200k is more than many mid level groups will sell over their entire career.. for a soloist that's a big success.

Eunbi also has potential for a breakthrough, her latest release charted the best so far so she's heading in the right direction at least.

Chaeyeon did kind of flop though but it can still be salvaged, her company straight up sabotaged her with that debut song.

Your thread makes zero sense, why the hell Bp solos aren't counted ? But at the same time you're counting Mamamoo members, BTS, Exo and Nayeon as soloist ? Also how come Nayeon is a one hit wonder when she only had one solo release ? If you want to make a critical thread at least be coherent.

All BP girls and Nayeon are very successful if you count people still in groups.

Hard to think of anyone that wasn't in a group at the time of their hits, though. Chungha is probably the best example, but she has fallen off with her last couple comebacks. Her hits were big enough that I'd still consider her successful.

Somi is a 4th gen soloist since she debuted in 2019, but she is clearly successful if you consider her 3rd gen. All her singles were top 40, she had a top 10 on her last album, her album is the 3rd most streamed on Spotify ever after Lisa and Rose (ahead of IU), and 3/4 of her single MVs have 100M+ views.

Yena is also a 4th gen soloist with a decent hit, but fell off fast with her next release.
