Were fans boycotting SJ because of him? And he needed to be removed to keep the fans?

Yes, K ELFS were the ones doing it and they wanted him ousted just because he got married. Poor guy.

Sulli/f(x) is the only one I can think of. While Krystal had the chic, mini Jessica Ice Princess image that women liked, Sulli was put in this innocent pure image that attracted men (keep in mind she was a minor for the majority of her time with f(x)) So when she started dating a rapper twice her age who's very name was a sexual innuendo, her fans, including her only fansite lost their shit. And that was the last straw that finally pushed her out of the group and pretty much ended what little attention SM gave f(x)

I guess most of the answers related more to previous generations since they've had more time since debut to date which i guess may infer that an older group member dating would be more accepted than a younger group member

As far as I understand from the answers, it is more effective in the 2nd generation. Since it's near the end of the 2nd generation in Exo, they were also affected. It doesn't have an effect in the 3rd generation, I think Koreans are used to it now. But now that the 4th generation groups are young, they have more young fans. Here, if one of the 4th generation groups dating, I think the fans will create more drama and a lot of fanfare.

that wasn't because of dating, is because they went over the statement gave by their employer, cube knew they were dating long before
edit: as for the answer no it didn't, dating has little to no effect on their career beside that they get hate at that moment, just a very small and loud part of fanbase care about dating

Umm.....Shine was so big though, I'm surprised you think that didn't affect the group negatively

that was the reason why Cube didn't wanted to announce the dating because Pentagon were rookies coming out of a semi hit, i think the mess that come out after dating affected them more than the dating itself since Pentagon never benefited from Shine blowing up and the fanbase was shaken before having a chance to stabilize

Oh, with that, I also agree

I think it depends on the type of fandom a group has.
A female group with lots of female fans will be less affected, as they don't want to see them as innocent per se, which male fans tend to do.
I do think Twice was more affected by dating than people sometimes think, in that some fans quietly abandonned them and went to look for a new group to stan. It's probably wise that they're now building more of a female fandom to compensate for what used to be a more stronger male dominated fandom.

Not a group, but Kang Daniel lost a lot of fans after Jihyo. He's still plagued by malicious comments about it.
Not an idol, but Lee Seunggi lost part of his fanbase because they didn't approve of his girlfriend's family.

twice in korea

Well it's a possibility. But i don't think any dating news will be out for years for them
-
Like it was like 68K to 13.9K or something like that...
That's rough
Left their love for the group because one member decided to get married? That's extreme and full delulu
-
twice in korea
No. I don't think they declined in sk because of dating

Did this make him lose his it boy popularity too eventually?
