Irrelevant rant on NCT

  • Don't know where to post this, but I'm also sorry.

I'm kinda feeling tensed about NCT, which is stupid because they're one of the biggest kpop groups atm and are doing pretty well but it strikes me odd that the upcoming activities feel very rushed and sort of forced...? I mean I don't have to tolerate it or comment on it if I was bothered, I could just turn a blind eye but I don't know how to deal with it because hello? No ones talking about this?!!

Like NCT 2021 is less than a month away and we don't even have a full group in hand atm. (Not about Winwin btw, I'm 100% supportive of him and his dreams, I'd rather have him chase his dreams than to satisfy fans by having minimum screen time and no lines) And I want to bring up Lucas because the nctzen in me is obviously restless but as a decent human I shouldn't, because I can't ignore the rumors and just completely disregard the fact that he has some heavy allegations on his shoulders, to which I believe it's probably sensible to stay neutral and to wait for an official statement because there's a million different sides and stories to this.

Even if we completely ignore this member of the group, there's still faults in whatever is happening, we have two VERY overworked members, who have given nothing but the best to their fans, and a comeback that abruptly stopped promoting (????? why did the promotions end so soon for Favorite, it was the more well received comeback too??) We also have a single that's yet to be released, because a certain someone has a very questionable past.

We have like 6 weeks before 2022 and less that 3 before NCT2021 (essentially already started since they're putting out teasers and concept photos) And NCT127 has a whole TOURING happening in december, which obviously overlaps with the current schedule and further messes with the health of both Mark and Haechan (don't argue with me on this, it's too packed even for someone who hasn't had a comeback in a long time)

In what way is this supposed to help the group other than for the fact that this is an easy cash grab? Sure, if they put out the album this year, SM can easily sell over 2 million albums- and possibly even clear out schedules for next year in hopes that both Mark and Haechan can get a well deserved break, not to deny WayV can also get a boost from this event.

Not to add that NCTzens are not known for being united as a whole exactly. I'm very sure there's a bunch of fans who will boycott this comeback and dismiss the efforts of the other members who've worked their asses off with the argument that their "fav" members weren't participating. As much as I would wish for a more sensible fandom, I kinda agree with them saying there shouldn't be an NCT 2021 at all, we would've been perfectly happy with an NCT 2022.

Considering SM is already planning the debut of a new unit, and the fans are expecting new members (might I add, currently MIA members too) wouldn't it have been more sensible to just have an NCT 2022? Give us a clear answer on the whole Lucas situation, stop rushing things and let the members have their breaks- everything would fall into place if we just had the comeback next year. Both of the NCT (as a whole) albums released previously were once in two years, that looks good honestly! It spaces things out and gives everyone time to fully enjoy an era and prepare for the next. This is literally so unnecessary, if you want money come up with another idea, it's not like NCTzens won't enjoy other content as well.

I will support them, wholeheartedly, but as an observer it hurts a little to see this unfold.

  • I think all your concerns are valid and I share the same sentiment!

Yeah, I'm not too fond of the whole NCT 2021 idea either, but I'll still support it because we fans know how hard they have been working, esp. Haechan and Mark since the very beginning of the year. It's quite possible they had a very short break after Resonance ended, which leaves a very bad taste in my mouth considering how packed their schedules were last year. I hope they will get their deserved break during Jan-Mar.

And tbh, I'm very worried about how Mark and Haechan will manage to promote full comebacks (album + repack) under two different sub-units every year (assuming this is what is going to happen from now on). This is just not ok.

  • A few things

@@@32801941-abcd-48fd-911f-d7802d4cfbec@@@) I think having a NCT comeback every 2 years was already a weird approach, and i rather them do it yearly. Im speaking as a fan. I don't much care about overworked idols because they are being paid handsomely (imagine making enough money from 20-30 where you can invest and live comfortable for the rest of your life). This is the life they choose and its w.e.

    2) Who cares if its rushed. Its just music. I'm not trying to marinate in a ERA or a comeback time. Its just some pics, some music, some music videos, and some performances and its done. Nothing special about it expect 21 members are present. Winwin and Lucas aren't participating, but again, who cares, there are 21 other members who can have the attention.

    3) If theres no NCT 2021, Sungchan and Shotaro will basically have release no music this year, which is pretty shitty. They will hopefully get put in a unit next year, but it'd be weird to debut in 2020, and not release more music till 2022.

I think some of you are TOO and i mean TOOO personally invested in shit that DOES NOT MATTER, nor should concern you. IF you want to infantilize boys, please do it somewhere else. We're getting new music, the boys get to spend time together, and that's all that matters to me.

  • I agree with you, it feels like SME turned the full group project into a necessity to make NCTzens splurge even more, rather than a special event that brings all sub-units together, like it felt previously. Also atp, the members (in particular 127) must be incredibly tired from preparing and promoting 2 comebacks in just 2 months, and now heading towards their 3rd soon.

It's especially worrying for both Mark and Haechan who have been working and promoting for pretty much the whole year, also Doyoung who had to balance his musical with the comeback preparations and possibly Jaehyun starting next year with his drama filming + the upcoming tour. ?( Of course I'm excited for more NCT music and full group content, but I also worry about each of the members' well-being and whether they are actually enjoying their time right now, or just living through it.

  • I think all your concerns are valid and I share the same sentiment!

Thank god, I felt like I was being overdramatic :waterr:

I completely agree too, Mark and Haechan will probably have it the worst this era- esp considering that Dream usually has early-mid year comebacks, and unless the duo announce like a break or hiatus (which is very less likely) I won't bet my money on a break really.

For fans who are worried about units for Sungtaro, they can easily be pacified if there was more content released from them (like how WayV is dealing with the cancellation of a comeback this year) so it's really doesn't feel like it's well thought out.

Lowkey feels like they're doing this to sweep the allegations under the rug, as shitty as that sounds, because no matter how we put it, Lucas was one of their most profitable idols.

  • Whoa, I did not realize everything that was going on, but want to give you kudos for putting your feelings out there so respectfully and articulately!

  • if you agree with the system good for you man, i got nothing to tell you.

also this is a forum, im allowed to talk about it if i want to

  • Even if they are making bank by being part of two successful sub-units, they are still human beings and physically they have their own limits. A couple days ago after the World Tour was announced, Mark rushed to Bubble to assure fans that he's fine and will be fine, but that doesn't erase the fact that they are being overworked. I would be worried if any other human being was being overworked lol. Jaehyun is most likely the next member that will be overworked next year.

I'm fine with 5dream comebacks if that means Haechan and Mark won't be overloaded with promotions again.

These last few months of 2021 should have been focused on the new sub-unit, they didn't need this whole ass project to kickstart the preparations for them and at this point we don't even know if we are getting new members this era. But again, we should be patient. There's still a long way to go until December 14th.

NCT 2021 has been mentioned since mid-year during that SM conference, so I don't think it's related to Lucas' scandal. He was very popular, but not one of the most profitable members IMHO.

Anyways we should hope for the best and still show our support somehow.

  • I honestly wish I knew the original plans for this year because things shifted so much... I do agree that NCT 2021 feels rushed, but I don't think it was rushed. I think they just fucked up by holding things off. I know it was partially in an attempt to see if COVID was mostly over, but this whole year has been messed up for them.

We started off the year getting leftover comebacks from 2020 (Loveholic was supposed to be in November 2020 and Kick Back was originally supposed to be a repackage from what I understand.) NCT 127 was obviously supposed to comeback earlier in the year since they were recording in February, but something happened to get them pushed back.

It just feels like NCT 2021 is the one thing on the schedule that they refused to move and instead bottlenecked everything up. :nct14:

At least we know NCT 127's actual tour won't be until at least late winter/early spring since Jaehyun will be filming a drama.

I feel like when NCT already has a member with a pretty bad chronic injury it makes sense that nctzens worry about the others being overworked

I'm not a huge fan of everything being so close together either but that's sm for you. Hopefully everyone gets through it just fine

A member with a chronic injury who reinjured himself during all the NCT 2020 promotions.

If you want to lack empathy, you can follow your own advice and do it somewhere else instead of someone else's thread who clearly doesn't agree.

idk why you're expecting everyone else to not give a fuck about other human beings. People's physical and mental health DO matter, even if it's part of their job.

You can throw all your trash on the floor at the store and expect a janitor to clean up after you, and you can completely fuck up a clothing store 5 minutes before closing and the workers will have to stay longer without compensation because they have to clean up your mess... you can be that asshole because technically it's part of their job description and "what they signed up for", but some people are decent human beings with actual empathy.

You could learn something from this post, but I'm sure you wont.

  • My point is, You ARENT IMPORTANT TO THEM. Mark and Haechan have bandmates, familes, friends etc that will worry about them and can help them through physical and mental problems. You crying on a forum about it, is literally doing nothing and really isn't your concern. It can be, but your just concerns about someone when you DONT KNOW SHIT ABOUT THEM. You know nothing about there life and nothing about their mental or physical state.

And your example makes no sense. That's an actual situation i can understand and have a part in prevent or not doing. YOU have no control or involvement in how members feel or how much they work. You are just a fan.

This is like you, seeing a football player practice every day and your like "wow he might have mental problems or physical problems, he shouldn't do that". If you thought this IRL for a football player, you'd be looked at as a weirdo. Only in kpop is appropiate to cry about people, when you don't know they life or their feelings. You guys need to stop infantilizing adults and just enjoy the music/content. They are not your Pokemon to care for.

I'm not saying you can't be empathetic or care about overworking, but its not your job.

  • Thank god, I felt like I was being overdramatic :waterr:

omg no, don't say that! ;(

trust me when i tell you, a lot of us have concerns for our boys and just spill it all out sometimes when we're feeling overwhelmed.

i think its very nice of you to share your thoughts with everyone in such a respectful.

i think you're the first nctzen outside of our guild who was able to do that without having me like ?( over your approach to the matters.

ive been worried about all of these things before as well because of how much so many members have had to work this year </3

  • omg ur literally so hot for this

  • Yes but an articulate and well worded rant! Those are the best kinds of rants :* Welcome and don't let Kouss scare you away. They're quite dismissive of most things.

Just dismissive of fans complaining about unnecessary things that don't have anything to do with music. Some of you want to be these boys mothers SOOOOO bad. I'm not here to cry about a man working too much, sorry if you are.

  • Thank you for sharing my concerns! I'm honestly overwhelmed to see so many of you agreeing to this, without judgement and prejudice.

Unrelated though, is there any way that I can join this guild? I'm unfamiliar with this and I'd like to join the community!!

Hi so I read through your comment again, and I get where you're coming from. Like yes, they're mainstream idols who have a shit ton of attention and can definitely fend for themselves. but as an onlooker I can't help but comment on it. I'm sorry if it annoys you. I didn't mean to seem like I was babying them. It's just fan concern, that's all. I kinda can't help it lol so all I can do is apologize and understand where you're coming from

I think we all understand your stance after your first post - it's not our jobs to worry, infantilizing, etc etc. Thanks for sharing your dismissive view, no need to continue! It's not your job to scold and belittle others either if that's your stance. If you want to talk about unnecessary, then your continued harping on it is a shining example. You've had your say, stop wasting everyone's time now.

  • also yutensils you should come and by the NCT guild! We're awesome people! :nct5:

this is just a view from an outsider but your concerns never came across as infantilizing.

as a fan it’s only normal to want your faves to be treated well and for them to be healthy.

Hope all turns out well for them :-)

  • It doesn't even matter if you aren't important to someone. You can literally observe someone doing the situation I described without being the one contributing to that person's workload and still feel bad for the worker, even if you don't know that person. I've walked into stores that were completely massacred and thought, "I feel so bad for the person that has to clean this up".

If I saw an athlete (and I don't even give a shit about sports) overworked to the point where it could be damaging, then yeah, I would be worried for them.

I have no intention of coddling grown ass men and I'm not going to lose sleep or cry over these things, but it costs nothing to be concerned about someone's health and safety. Having sympathy is not infantilizing. Knowing someone isn't a requirement of being empathetic. Of course it's no one's job to feel empathy for people, but why tf would it need to be?

  • yutensils I thought that was a well written and empathetic comment. I don’t think it infantilizes someone by saying “hey I hope they’re okay.” No one I know thinks they’re infantilizing a player when we sit around and watch Sunday NFL games and someone worries that a player is coming back too soon from an injury or that the team is being greedy by rushing him back. Everyone just sees that as being a fan.

A fan is passionate about their team or their favorite group. I’ve never heard someone at Buffalo Wild Wings accuse someone of trying to be their mother because they don’t want someone to blow out his knee and be out the whole damned season.

I agree with the comments earlier that SM was thrown a curve by COVID and Lucas, which had upended their plans. Heaven knows they’ve delayed shit before but investors, I suppose.

Knowing that members have been out with severe and sometimes chronic injuries with long recovery times (Taeyong, Jaemin, Haechan, Jisung) puts us all on edge and I think it’s natural and human to feel that way.

It’s also very very clear that SM uses social listening to monitor fan chatter (and that some of that is shared back with members, assuming they are not seeing some of it directly, as they have also spoken about) so I disagree about us fans not saying something and it making a difference.( For better or worse…remember the scrapped Christmas carols, y’all?)

I’ll support the guys here and love new Neo music but I do wish we had a NCT 2022 and a little breathing room here for them. I want them all to work, which they love to do, but also to stay healthy. They were pretty exhausted and said so when they got to us in California on the last tour, so I want them to get a little time to rest and recharge before they visit us again.

This looks like a wall of text on my phone, but damn, I can’t believe “hey I don’t want this dude to completely blow out his back that he had to take a emergency hiatus to heal” is being interpreted as “acting like their mom.”
