I was checking two posts here on allkpop and in one of them EVERYONE is saying westerns are racist and xenophobic because BTS being super successful in the west and labels and some western fans from other groups are upset about it, then i read a post about GP999 and EVERYONE is calling koreans racist and xenophobic because there are 8 koreans in the top 9 at the moment
So our conclusion is EVERYONE is racist and xenophobic!

Haha, basically, most countries have some sort of nationalism going on. It's just a fact of life. When you venture into some other country, chances are you will be at a disadvantage.
There's such thing as majority privilege. They'll look at their own before they consider you.
People take pride in those who share their nationality or ethnicity. They see themselves in each other. They even live vicariously through each other.
Not always, but much of the time. Those who are trying to make it in a different country need to work MUCH harder just to be considered. For anyone to find a huge amount of success in another country is an amazing accomplishment.

It's clear as day that Koreans have a racist/xenophobic streak, just like Americans do, but it's accentuated by the fact that Korea is almost militantly nationalistic (driven by a collectivist society where the needs of the many are favored over individual needs).
Everything you do is a reflection of your country, if you succeed, you bring pride to your "people". In America, things like music and film and TV are much more focused on the individual, Taylor Swift setting records and winning awards is about her, not about making America great again or whatever 
. In Korea, internationally renowned artists and athletes are lionized as literal national heroes, whether it's BTS, Parasite crew, soccer players, or most likely now the Squid Games crew.
Koreans are pretty xenophobic though. Of course not all of them, but enough of them to be very noticeable. I mean.....ever wonder why a Korean group has a decently good chance of being successful in Japan but you can't comfortably say the same thing if you flip it around and talk about a Japanese group in Korea? Or can anybody realistically imagine a musical group filled with non-Koreans/non-white being actually successful in Korea? Of course Korea isn't the only country that's xenophobic but it's pretty high up in the rankings.
Also coming from the US.....I can honestly say that there are still a good part of this country outside of the east and west coast that are pretty racist. It's just the way it is sadly.

I'll add to that by saying there is some form of inherent bias when it comes to things like work and getting into internships and things like that based purely on names and looks and skin colour...
there was an article which experimented on people's names only and I think it was american which showed the same candidate having the exact same credentials but the only change was the name from a very non-Western sounding name to something very western and in a lot of the cases the western sounding name got through to the second round of the interviews or call backs or whatever...

i think this show should have announced at the beginning they would pick the top three Koreans, top three Chinese, and top three Japanese contestants to be the final nine members. Otherwise, the chances of the voting devolving into a nationalistic argument was too high - especially given the historical animosities between the three countries.

Every country face the same problem. Most people don't want the outsiders to shine in their country when they have their own product to support, especially when it is involving their pride.
damn this! I remember seeing youtube comments on a video about BTS on an Indian channel and people(Indians unfortuently) were asking Indian army why they aren't supporting their own acts(Indian musicians) but they are supporting "these foreigners".
As an Indian it was honestly so upsetting to see.
