Would you like it if groups released vocal practices?

  • There's dance practices. Although most aren't really "practice" since they're so polished. It's more like a performance video but in casual clothes.

What about vocals? Wouldn't it be interesting to watch vocal training, how they assign parts, record the song, etc.?

Kind of like this video where Mamamoo were practicing their high notes and harmonies. It took some time to get it right but seeing them succeed is satisfying.

  • If the majority aren't singing without a backing track, what's the point? MAMAMOO is in that special tier of id0ls who can "go in" without one. It's a part of their "brand" and only a few others.

It would be interesting for fans yes. But I also understand why companies don't share them. It shows their way of working and it can also tarnish the image of the idols, or the agency.

The dance videos are mainly there to show a raw performance and without background where we only focus on the dance, they do not really show the learning either.

If you really love something, you have to know how to let go.

  • NCT kinda does that for most their comebacks

Ohh really? Do you have some examples? I'm curious.

True but maybe when they record a song the studio? Kinda nice to see the process and hear more raw vocals.

Isn't dance practice more like fans can practice the dance?

Ahh I'm not sure. I thought it was to show the groups dancing without camera work getting in the way and all. But I guess it could work that way too.

  • My faves released band practices before but they stopped doing so

We stan talent in this house

  • I would love that! I love seeing all the behind the scenes album recordings that groups/soloists reveal sometimes so anything of that nature would be really cool

  • I would love it. I really enjoy the NCT recording videos that show the raw vocals and the work that goes into them. For example, sometimes they are trying to get specific nuances to a line read, convey emotion in a word, make their own edits to lyrics or reach a specific note. These behind the scenes really made me appreciate some vocalists more (Haechan), boggle at the pure ability of others (Taeil), understand the complexities of the songs (multiple vocalists fretting about reaching high notes) or admire the way others really approached songcraft and production (Taeyong) or offer coaching to another (also Taeyong.)

NCT had an entire channel devoted to recordings but had to merge it with the main channel due to a YT revamp. The majority of the songs on Resonance have the recordings captured in video.

    • Official Post

There are a few other groups who have released their recording process (which is probably as close as you're gonna get to practice outside of seeing them do warmups or something in backstage stuff), but none of them have done as much as NCT.

  • I love this idea. Watching artists work is so cool. I'd rather watch the work process than variety shows. One video I enjoyed was when MX filmed when they learned and recorded a part switch version of Fighter. I loved watching them go through the process, especially since the part switch meant that it showed them out of their comfort zones and really working at trying to do these parts. I wish there were more videos like this.

Ooooh I love that they do this! I'll watch these :)

  • It was interesting to watch the whole process since I already knew the performance. Mamamoo rehearsals are always mellifluous.

BTS have a lot of content regarding vocal rehearsals and how they register songs.

  • NCT have been doing this for quite a while now. I do hope SM will do the same with the rest of their groups. I would love to see a raw recording sessions of SNSD (if they'll decide to comeback), Exo, Red velvet and Aespa. That would be a vocal feast for my ears. :pepelove1:

The dance practice videos though are usually fully realised performances, you're not seeing the dance practice in progress.

That's what I liked about this practice video of After School's Step Up, you can see glimpses of the process as well as the evolution of the dance practice over time.

I also really enjoy behind the scenes like RV Wendy's and Seulgi's, where you see brilliantly talented, experienced singers at work together on improving and finetuning songs, making them their own. I like how they analyse the song parts in the process in order to make them better.
