Do you agree about this thing regarding big3 groups?

  • It's like that for any group in general, kpop groups have a very short life spam by 3 years they are already old and by 5 year then should disband unless they are doing very well in most or all areas. That's why most groups need their big break at their 1-2 year, smth most 2nd gen and 3 gen did and the same reason why people tell 4 gen is not doing well

  • Yeah if it's a group from JYP

It use to be true for YG as well, now I'm not sure

Not exactly if it's from SM

And this is more about those companies strategies. JYP release follow-ups only three years later, hence if you are in your third anniversary you are very likely seing your last years of decent promotions. Current kpop expansion are increasing sales across that board, thanks to that some of their 3rd gen groups (Twice, Got7, Day6) started to see a small but significant increase in sales even after their 4th year, but you can already see their sales seems to have peaked and are very likely to stop increasing thanks to their very lackluster promotion and rushed focus on new groups

YG used to have a very high public awareness and by far the biggest following among all kpop companies. I think a big part of YG following aren't really into kpop besides YG groups. This huge fanbase made any YG group to break even pretty fast to a point more often than not YG groups popularity started to deteriorate in the very early stages of their careers. With Treasure I guess things will turn around a bit

Definitely not true for SM. Almost every SM groups meet their breakthrough many years later after their debut and overall kept going strong until and reaching high peaks beyond their 5th or 6th anniversary

Well whatever you say then, but still you are treating NCT like a normal Kpop SM group when they aren't, they were 3 years old on 2019 and EXO numbers from debut are not the usual even for SM groups. Both 127 and Dream were doing average and I could even argue Dream was doing pretty good for their promotions and investments. You could say that from 2018 to 2019 they barely grew and I could understand It but they were still constantly growing.

  • I think it’s a case by case basis.

Most JYP groups before Stray Kidz got a hit within their first year. Most YGE group after Big Bang debuted with a hit. Only SM group had to work a bit more because they have a stronger manufactured image than YGE (cool, artistry) and JYP (relatable, fun) so they usually didn’t get hits and take off until a bit into their careers. (their advantage of physicals sales at the beginning helps though)

NCT is an anomaly. even though they sell many albums, their public support is really low and they have no hits. They’ll sell a lot of albums, but Koreans won’t put them above EXO, SUJU, SHINWA, HOT, SHINEE, TVXQ because they don’t have hit songs.
