is 2025 the end of 4th gen ??

I think it is with 4th gen groups struggling to chart and declining sales. I think Illit has the chance to become a top 3 group if their comeback is a hit. They have a lot of positive momentum and I don't see any June releases blocking them. Maybe Qwer could battle them on the charts because they chart well in Korea.

time will tell

not every group will hit it big with every song and maybe this is a hull for 4th generation groups

Except Bang will give Hybe's better songs to Katseye first and Illit will emphasize more on Japan.

If 3 months in the Top 10 for IVE's most recent comeback is a bad performance then 5th Gen is dead on arrival as far as GGs are concerned.

yeah it was since late last year imo it's funny how 3rd gen has a stronger impact for son long

I havent been following charts recently but if Rebel Heart really only lasted 13 weeks or so in top 10, that is a noticeable drop from their peaks. Back in their heyday, they would routinely spend 18-30+ weeks in the top 10.

However, i do agree that 5th gen GGs arent anywhere near being able to replace 4th gen yet. The only group that shocked the world was Illit and Magnetic and MHJ's attempts to sabotage them were successful enough to blunt their growth. Meow, Kiii, Izna, Baemon, and Heart have all flopped AFAIK with none of them making it into the top 5 of Melon Weekly like Ive, NJ, LSRFM, and Aespa did by their 2nd albums.

What about mhdhj? Their faces are everywhere in Korea and everyone loves interviewing them

5th gen had no impact yet aside from maybe riize, but not enough. Maybe it'll happen soon with new debuts coming. I'm suprised about 4th gen tho, none of them are making good music anymore as they were before. Newjeans will be missed

It's not the "end of the 4th" because a lot of the group you talk about are late 3rd generation groups, not 4th generations groups. It's the end of the 3rd generation, the are just following Twice and BP to the dark side of the moon.

3rd gen is not ending if the top group of Korea is 3rd gen

I feel Aespa are still on the rise. The Korean zeitgeist feels like they aren’t yet tired of them, so I expect them to have their biggest hits of their career over the next year or two.

I agree, I think as time goes on Aespa will be considered the first big 4th gen girl group, and those before will become 3.5 gen, Idle, Itzy, Everglow and Loona for example all feel closer to 3rd gen and don’t really have any of the hallmarks that would define 4th.

Aespa flopped with their debut. They didnt become the first big 4th gen group until Next Level which was the national hit that ended 3rd gen.

Of course that never would have happened if the ACTUAL first big 4th gen group was still active. Remember, it took Izone's disbandment in Mar/Apr of 2021 to finally let the other 4th gen groups shine. It was like Izone shined so bright that all the other struggling 4th gen groups were relegated to the shadows.

Right after Izone's disbandment, Aespa hit big with Next Level literally a month later. Then Idle got their first national hit with Tomboy in 2022, then Ive with Love Dive, then New Jeans with Attention and Hybe Boy. Izone sacrificed themselves to the Kpop gods so your faves could flourish, all Mys, Dives, Fearnots, Tokkis and Nevvis owe Izone their allegiance tbh.
