Would be interesting to see this for 2018 (beginning of 4th gen) and 2020-2022 ish. Idle is the only group from 2018 that i know is still active. There may be a couple others that still havent officially disbanded but are clearly defacto disbanded like Fromis9. And a few super nugus that are still hanging around.

Which is pretty insane to think about. Basically it's 2025 now and we only have THREE active GGs from before 2020 - Idle, Itzy and Twice. All the other 3rd gen are gone - BP is defacto disbanded as is RV, OMG, MMM. All the early 4th gen groups like Loona, Izone, Everglow, Fromis, Cherry Bullet, Rocket Punch, etc are gone.

big4 can shift capital from other groups to fund each other

That's peculiar. Did no one have a typical 7 year contract? Or were none of them profitable enough to last their entire contract?

Time flies because it doesn't feel like Itzy 7th anniversary is in February 2026. It feels like jyp fumbled with them and it's odd they haven't focused on many solo things for them. I wonder if they'll renew.

I think Itzy are profitable enough on their own (doesn't mean that when itzy initially debuted the capital for their investment didn't come from more senior groups)

GG that have all members that started renew with the same company is a rarity - only four GG in the entire kpop history Dreamcatcher, Mamamoo*, Twice, BP*

why would you consider it insane given that GG don't typically last after first seven years - I've already mentioned the groups that did renew above - I would think that people who have been in kpop for some time (such as yourself old timer) would realise that the "default" position is for GG to not ALL renew and that if all of the members that started do renew that would be the exception

You missed Girls Generation and Red Velvet. Jessica's renewal ended up not meaning anything, but she did renew. BP is actually debatable, because they technically renewed as a group with YG but actually prioritized their solo careers outside of the company.

RV did yes recent my bad I will add them too

I did put Mamamoo and BP with * since one member of MMM only renewed for group activities and not for individual ones and obviously for BP none of them renewed for individual activities

that would put the total at 6

Around the 7 year mark is when most groups first start to have solos, this is the norm.
