How do you judge stage presence ?

  • Isn't stage presence the power of people to make you enjoy their stage and makes you want to watch their performance ?

In this case wouldn't mean that people with the best stage presence are the artist who regulary gets the most amount of view on their stage ?

Cuz if one artist gets more view than another, it automatically means that more people watch this performance

So it means that more people enjoy and watch this performance compare to the other artist

And if stage presence is the power of people to own the stage and gets people attention doesn't mean that people with more fans are objectively people who have more stage presence than others

  • :meme-what:

    What on earth

Stage presence has absolutely zero correlation to how many people watch a video. What?

The worst thing you can do is try to reduce what it means to have stage presence to a bunch of soulless numbers like view count.

Stage presence is the ability to bring a dynamic and kinetic energy to your performance and infuse that energy into your audience. It's the ability to command and control the eb and flow of a performance to the point your charisma and charm is almost palpable to everyone, whether they're watching in person or through a screen.

Being entranced by an idol with great stage presence is like being immersed in a play being performed by a gifted actor. And very few idols have master class presence. Or that aura.

  • Not necessarily, because groups usually don't become popular just they are great performers, unless they suddenly go viral for this or something. Groups become popular mostly because they are visually appealing, because they have a charismatic personality and/or because their music resonate with a specific audience. And the popularity they gain through other aspects will impact in their views regardless of how objectively good performers they are.

People recognizing the stage presence of a group usually is an extention of their already existent popularity. So more people will watch, more people will pay attention on them and more people will be aware of their potential.

  • I don't think most people watch stage videos outside of their faves. I watch even the most nugu group music videos, but rarely ever watch them performing at stage. If I am really hooked into the song, I may watch stage performance.

  • Isn't stage presence the power of people to make you enjoy their stage and makes you want to watch their performance ?

Exactly! If a group, or even a soloist can make ANYONE, ESPECIALLY NON-FANS scream, that's a great stage presence!

For me, stage presence is 2 simple things: Amazing vocals or Rap if we're talking about Hip Hop artists, and charisma. Nothing else matters. I don't care how amazing dancers they are, I don't care if they hired James Cameron to make them real life Terminators fighting on stage while they are trying to perform.

If an artist can't sing or rap, they have zero stage presence! People can disagree with me, but this is my opinion. I have a LOT of faves, not just in Kpop, I have more than 50 faves in Kpop, but most of them doesn't have good stage presence.

Also, I think it's common knowledge that fans overhyping their faves all the time, but most of them don't know what stage presence actually is.

I've seen Aespa and Gidle fans fighting about this a couple of days ago. I will say the same thing now:

STAGE PRESENCE and STAGE VISUALS are not the same thing, yet many Kpop fans think it is!

No, the most watched performances are just like the most streamed MV's or songs. Just because the numbers are big, doesn't mean the quality is there as well.

I will show a simple example for real stage presence! 11 minute performance without any break, performing old Korean songs with the same dance choreos, without any big stage VFX, yet it's 1000 times better than 99% of Kpop stages!

FOR ME, this what stage presence means.

This is what I expect from a soloist, btw!

  • It has nothing to do with views as we are in kpop where automatically a big 4 group will already be more "popular" than non big4 groups with a bunch of company stans ready to stan or "support" them.

I think BB mama performance this year shows exactly what stage presence is seeing how viral and exciting it was for everybody in that stadium including others idols, it's the ability to captivate the audience.

Having fans is different of having stage presence.

  • Mamamo has stage presence, so does dreamcatcher

They don't have the most views or the biggest fandom but people know they are good performers

Its not smth that is questioned, its just what it is

I can't bring a good example of a group that get many views but suck lack many times: bp, did those views make all their performances good ? No

  • Uhhh...what?

Amount of views a performance garners has zero correlation to stage presence.

Stage Presence is simply an artist's ability to command the stage and captivate the audience either through an energetic presence on stage or fan engagement.

A good example of this is NewJeans' lolapalooza performance.

A good example of this is literally any performance of SEVENTEEN.

A bad example of this is most of IVE (no hate).

A bad of example of this is (idk, i cant think of a bg)

  • We got several definitions of stage presence in this thread. Nobody agrees on it because it's subjective in a way. It stage presence is the ability to draw an audience, fine but we are not all attracted by the same attitude or facial expressions. Stage presence for me is kinda a scam in particular when some Kpop fans or even coaches in survival shows consider it an actual talent like vocals, rap or dancing skills. Stage presence is also always used to dra girl groups,I have never seen a boy group gets dragged for their lack of stage presence. "Fierce" attitudes are favorized when we are discussing stage presence but it does not fit every concept, song or idol in the industry.
