Their whole concept, yes, they aren't the first ones, but they embraced the concept for several eras and made it their own in such a way that everybody who does something similar will automatically be paired with the NJs sound narrative.

Btw their merchandise is also something that I've never seen in kpop quality wise. They have the best aesthetic ever in kpop. You can buy their bags even as a non fan. That's how beautiful they are.

I view impact as something that is far reaching and long lasting. And by that definition, it is easily this drama with HYBE. The more interesting question to me is whether or not the impact is negative or positive, which I think we have yet to fully see.

If we consider influence of their concept than I would say they clearly influenced illit lol so I guess that's something.

The other day you were mentioning "packaging" as a big part of NJs success, and I would agree with that. Would not mind seeing that end up as some of the impact if it hasn't already. I always liked the way they feel real/genuine and it'd be nice to see that elsewhere.

Sadly it probably will be that other groups copy their concept and type of music, which I don't think is a benefit for kpop.

Other than that, it's not like they will have much other impact, if we don't drag the current mess in to it. Popular groups comes and goes with any huge impact on the industry, they mostly impact what kind of music and concept others groups do.

Even tho their songs are not my cup of tea, NJs “Tiktok” aka genZ short songs have really impacted the industry! Everybody and their mamas are now doing these kind of songs(even Hybe themselves with Katseye’s touch and Illit’s Magnetic)

Also their promotion style is the best in the industry, they promote almost or even every single song from the album which is really good!

They are a definition of GenZ group both artistically and capitalistically! They promote apple, coke, luxury brands, have swag, are in trend, have that simple teenager image, have short songs(because genZ has very short span of attention and patience), are very good dancers and etc….

I remember thinking Kpop concepts were getting a bit stagnant, and I also never expected to get into the music of kids young enough to be my daughters.

With their first releases, I was blown away by how they and their team tapped into a nostalgia and vibe I certainly wasn’t really aware I was missing and I loved seeing how these kids managed to really turn the industry on its head from what it seemed like people had assumed would be successful and necessary for popular debuts.

They’re very new so objectively not much. Perhaps they inspired some short term trends for example all the copy cats HYBE debuted and the kpop groups that wanted in on the trend.

But in the grand scheme of things not much. Which is expected from group that’s only been active for a year or so.

NJ's biggest impact might be introducing songs outside the classic upbeat kpop sound to a global audience.

Probably for their cultural reset in kpop. No rookie group has ever had people gravitate toward them like this, not even SNSD, BP, or Twice. Before their debut, everyone and their dog was stuck on girl crush concepts, which had been done to death and were starting to overstay their welcome. Then BOOM! came in NewJeans with their unique, laid-back, 2000s SM-esque vibe, and it was such a breath of fresh air, introducing something understated and nostalgic that people didn’t even realise they were longing for. Ditto was Exhibit A, when that dropped it was clear that NewJeans had sparked something. Suddenly both boy and girl groups started embracing this more playful, natural energy in their MV, handcams, retro filters and all. You knew right there and then that the formulaic choreographies and bold concepts were becoming a thing of the past.
