Counting just 2024 releases Aespa is the top group in Korea, female or male, they are the top and Karina hitting #1 on Melon and others charts just cements it.

aespa is such a non threat that I don't even feel the need to smack down the pretenders to the throne.

NewJeans remain in their own tier. aespa released so much more music than NewJeans this year, and they still got CRUSHED in every relevant metric.

The ONLY thing aespa has over NewJeans this year is they had a single song that was a bigger hit, but that is FAR from putting them in the same class as NewJeans.

By that logic, iKon was bigger than BTS and Momoland was bigger than Twice in 2018, since Love Scenario and Bboom Bboom were 2 of the 3 biggest hits that year, alongside D4.

But I bet nobody here would try to make that argument now and certainly wouldn't back then.

aespa has done well. But they haven't even grazed the peaks of what we've seen from NewJeans, and even when NewJeans is in a tenuous situation, they STILL reign supreme on MelOn, Circle and Spotify.

So, I guess I retorted anyway.

I've been nice to aespa all summer. Don't make me be thebadguy and have to contextualize their accomplishments within the prism of greatness that is NewJeans.

Starry Night outperformed Dance the Night Away in 2018, and Hwasa was the most successful solo artist that year by a wide margin. So was Mamamoo a bigger girl group than Twice that year?

Aespa album sold more, no? Their one album like compared to NJ first album this year. And their international numbers also did better so ignoring 2023 catalog, in what aspect NJ did better? And physical sales can be trick when Aespa will have their second cb and I think they can surpass NJs and Idle's numbers.

Artistically? Yes.

And with their problem is only a matter of time for Aespa to beat them in sales.

I like how you jumped to Oricon sales to bring in Japan but fail to mention the fact aespa isn't even the top seller there; LSF is. And digitally, NewJeans CRUSHES aespa. If you combined aespa and IVE's numbers on Spotify Japan, the total would be lower than NewJeans.

And do we even need to talk Spotify? NewJeans is about to secure their first year as the top girl group on the platform, dethroning BLACKPINK.

Yama, this thread is about 2024 releases, not about overall. This year Aespa is the biggest group in SK with the better results combined SK and internationally. Deal with it or deal with it.

I know NJs numbers are amazing, but this year as said in this thread, Aespa is the top group.

tbh the NJs stans (which is really probably just Yama) should be willing to accept, that if looking at 2024 only, aespa has done better than NJs. Not in album sales obviously, but that will change with in the coming weeks.

But aespa stans should acknowledge that this discussion might not even be happening if not for the drama plaguing NJs.

NewJeans had the highest debut in MelOn, were the #1 artist on MelOn overall throughout the entirety of aespa's comeback period, were the only artist to have multiple songs peak above 300k ULs, had 2 of the top 3 songs for weeks, while Armageddon vastly underperformed relative to Supernova, and NewJeans were also ALL OVER the media, getting the biggest brand deals, becoming the official ambassadors of Korean tourism and even getting a shout out from the President and invited to perform at a private ceremony for the Olympic team.

There is ZERO argument for any other group being on NewJeans' level.

Honestly, this is just the ignorance and hubris of international fans. NewJeans DOMINATED the most recent Gallup survey, and I bet if you asked 1000 Korean citizens at random who the biggest girl group in Korea is, 990 would say NewJeans.

There is a BILLION POINT GAP between aespa and NewJeans on Circle.
