  • Once again

Starbucks was flopping in Korea years ago because in Seoul at that time there was about 70k cafe's

so to minimalize loses they've sold it

the so called Starbucks in Korea is owned by E-Mart and GIC

E-mart is part of Shinsegae group the chaebol conglomerate in Korea

E-mart is largest shareholder of Starbucks Korea they have 67,5% of all shares

GIC has remaining shares and it's Singaporean based company

Starbucks in Korea even has it's own design team, overall it means this is basically totally different company, which just shares the logo and maybe some recipe with the Starbucks you know and have in your country

Basically fans causing a stir on twitter are uneducated brats

but sadly Idols can see those comments so it's normal that some like in this case Taeyong don't want to have anything to do with it

  • I'm glad he openly talk about this

Because way too often kpop fans consider that the actions of their company is a reflect of the artist thoughts

Kpop idols sold their image to their company so they can do whatever they want with it, and company are hungry for money so they don't give a f about what's happening around the world if they can gain 1 more dollar at the end of the month

But their actions doesn't reflect the principles and ideology of their idols

And i'm glad that Taeyong isn't afraid to be vocal and say " they are using our group name but i don't support this and you neither shouldn't"

  • uneducated brats- oh rlly - starbucks is still starbucks weither its in america or in korea- keep on drinking ur bloody drink

    if HYBE would sell ADOR

would it mean that ADOR is still HYBE?

ps: I don't drink such things, I prefer to brew my coffee myself

  • Well... I guess if a kpop star posts a picture of themself enjoying a Starbucks drink with the logo on it, it still kinda "advertises" it, and might make some international fans (even though a few of them maybe) want to buy it in their own country.

or I'm not sure how to explain it.

you are right and I get it your point about advertising brand

but you know how it is, it kind of sucks that so many idols were already blamed just for drinking a coffee

  • they deserve all the hate and blame, yunjin, somi, ive etc

Somi's father is of German and Dutch decent, both people who were responsible for Apartheid in South Africa and the Holocaust of Jews. There's no way that she didn't know what she was doing especially when she knows that as a popular influencer, anything she posts gets millions of views.

  • I've yet to see any real evidence that ties Starbucks to Palestine/Israel. Starbucks doesn't even operate in Israel, from what I remember. That union suing thing is hardly new for SB they are known for being union busting and not wanting their logo attached to anything remotely controversial. It's also not mentioned on the official BDS list I've seen.

I mean they have shitty labour practices and their treatment of unions is appalling so boycott them by all means, but people keep calling everyone a zionist for holding a cup and it's absurd.

  • the one who needs to be educated is you if you can't understand that brand names are paid for and aren't used for free even after change in ownership and management. It's still a franchise after all. Even if the original Starbucks was sold off, they have to pay for using the brand name as it brings in fans of Starbucks which earns the owners of new business the brand name owners money that they use to support the psychopathic murderers who are killing people in Palestine.

No lie or propaganda will blind people ever again.

It's good that some idols are not brainwashed.

idk anything about what actually went on with starbucks and the israel connection but the brand is associated to it now and SM rejects a lot of stuff for their idols but not something like this thats obviously gonna affect them...

  • are you people ok?

acting like hes doing something so groundbreaking?

all he did was post-boycott leaving the rest to our imaginations

if he could do that he could of posted actually serious things about Palestine, like go fund me/charities/ informative things

but that being said I do hope this starts a trend in kpop where idols talk about the issues around the world

  • ur reaching, boycott what?

if he has the decency to post boycott

he could have been you know a bit more specific

I just see this as him not wanting the controversy somi went though that's it, lets stop babying our idols

  • they have been donating money to israel, and doing its so proudly like somi in a tiktok is a form of zionism

no they have not, that is a thing that tik tok keeps spreading with no actual evidence whatsoever. Which is why Starbucks isn't on the BDS list. I even saw people claiming Starbucks is funding weapons for Israel, which is even more idiotic.

This still gives me so much joy

Starbucks is shitty and overpriced idk why people keep going there ;(

Honestly tho, I only have ever liked one of their drinks and their hot cocca. Their candy is s--t, their food is just instant microwave food and if I am spending $8 or more on a coffee, I am going to an actual coffee specializing place like Dutch Bros.

To explain, this is at least what happened to the franchises in our multistate area. The corporate office threatened mass lay offs because multiple franchises were donating a hefty chunk of their proceeds to help Palestine's people who have been displaced. Some one on Starbucks's corporate social media accounts made a comment stating that they did not approve of their (the union heads) statement of solidary to Palestine. The union even urged people to not blame all Jewish people for the actions of the Israel government. So multiple Starbucks unions are currently in huge arguments with the corporate office because of it.

  • This has been moved to current events due to it being reported multiple times as being a subject too much in line with current events for some users comfort levels. As multiple mods have gotten comments on this, within the last hour.

Much love y'all and thank you at least for paying attention a bit to the world around you.

They are not making the statements and causing issues on behalf of Starbucks. They honestly might believe world issues are not a concern of their daily lives, but that does not mean they deserve death threats over a coffee.

If someone wants to make a statement like Taeyong they can but we cannot expect all idols to be comfortable commenting on or being involved in world issues.

but again, the only thing I can actually find a source on is the workers union "Solidarity with Palestine" statement and the ensuing stuff etc. Nothing about any layoffs bc proceeds were donated. And the union comment was made two days after the Hamas attack, which means in context it's a bit more controversial than just expressing solidarity with Palestine bc it could come across like they're endorsing the attack.

  • like fr

"For reference, Israel and Korea, which are at war with Islam, are allies

He became a soldier who supports an enemy country" what in the stupidity is this

Korea supports the idea of an independent Palestine and voted yes for Palestine to allowed to be a UN member. Most non muslim countries are against Islam especially in the West but following the law controls them from openly showing their Islamophobia.

One person can't be held responsible for the political choices of his country but his small voice and actions can influence many to see the light and support humanity. That's the beauty of it all. How many of his fans do you think so the post?

    EXACTLY!

I wanted to create a thread about this, because Twitter is a mad place today, because Wheein posted an Insta story with a Starbucks drink or something, I'm not sure, because I didn't see it, probably because she deleted it.

So, now all I see on Twitter is people attacking her and the fans who say she didn't do anything wrong.

All of them are 18-22 years old btw, you can see it on their pages. They are talking about stuff like, we should send them letters to educate the members and other Idols as well. Asking them to take a stand etc.

I mean, it's not like I support these companies, but at one point in our lives, all of us bought something from them, so technically we helped them support the war. And now, these kids calling celebs who don't talk about the war or drinking something or wear something from these brands, z*onists.

And they want to EDUCATE Idols, and want to hold them accountable! I mean, who the hell are we, seriously? Just fans. We have ZERO right to hold them accountable!

Not to mention the fact that most of these people, are hypocrites, because they're only talking about the Israeli–Palestinian war, while the Russian-Ukraine war is still happening.

When I mentioned this to one of them, she said. "This sounds like the 'All lives matter' bs". And people like her want to educate Idols. Nonsense!

I'm 100% sure that Idols and every celeb knows about the wars and even the boycott movement, they just don't want to talk about it, because there's no good option, so they're keeping their opinion for themselves.

If you want to help the innocents, don't just post or repost tweets, send them money, send links to celebs to share those fundraising websites. That's helping, but holding them accountable and trying to educate them while you're uneducated too, is not helping. We only know what we read online or see on tv, and most of it just half-truth or even less.

  • He saw what happened to somi and wants no part of it.

This right here. The hypocrisy of these things is it doesn't get people who genuinely care. The boycotts are enforced by literal fascism. If an idol doesn't speak out when put on notice about it, or if they post something regarding xyz brand they are called every evil thing under the sun given death threats and cancelled and everything is tried to get them unemployed. So when faced with this mob mentality why would anyone say no? The fear of retaliation is strong you basically have a gun to their heads this doesn't create a genuine true response from people it's a bad way to do things when you are basically forced to agree.

Second unlike the dollar store activists, idols are judged by everyone if they get something wrong, these activist? Forgotten about tomorrow if they made a mistake.

Most of the people protesting know nothing about the history of the areas or why things are the way they are or why the fighting groups don't think like you do. Nor do they understand that more than one thing happening over there can be both right and wrong at the same time.

Lastly the cost on these idols are immense and some criticize him for making a statement as selfish. Why? Because this is Asia our mindset is more towards the group not individual. Pushing this boycott can harm the other members especially the not so popular members who likely are relying on money from deals with brands, people forget kpop is a business not a charity these people still need to make money.

This stuff could land him in serious trouble not just from his agency but also the brand he represents as those contracts have serious financial penalties for breaking them lastly hes enlisted as a soldier right now. You are NOT allowed to have any political stance while in service that can put you in real legal trouble.

Kpop is entertainment these idols are human just like you are they are not God's stop acting like it. They sing and dance they are not a ambassador of earth and humanity they are not the UN 99.99% of this stuff is above their pay grade they can barely keep up with the news happening in their own country concerning their own life right now and you expect them to understand shit in far away lands?🤡 C'mon people

  • Taeyong being dragged by Netizens might discourage more idols to be vocal about it if they want to.

When Felix apologized on a Livestream for promoting Coca-Cola, all the comments were saying he shouldn't have to apologize, because he's signed to promote the brand.

Read my comment above it explains why people are dragging him plus it's not the people dragging that makes them not speak out its all the other shit that will literally affect them something none of these Internet activist ever have to worry about because their asses aren't on the line if they get something wrong

I don't agree with people forcing idols to speak out or wanting to "educate" them as If they were their relatives, but I also don't agree It's always because they are being forced by the agency or brands to shut up that they don't do. There are cases and cases.

In reality, I believe most of them probably don't care enough like most part of the population in the world.

True it's not always the case but when that incentive is behind you by your agency and promoter you feel the added pressure to stay in your lane. Couple this with the fact that if they make a mistake by pushing a narrative and it turns out to be wrong? They will get crucified and at worst even jail as xyz gov says their influence over people could have caused social unrest. 99% of the people trying "educate" don't know jack shit about whatever they are even protesting about and throw around serious buzzwords without knowing it's definition.

These people are forgotten about if they mess up on their history lessons. An idol taking someone else's Twitter word as Gospel would get damn near killed for doing that and they are human just like everyone else and can easily make that mistake being emotionally manipulated by their fans to DO something. If you get this stuff wrong its whatever they get the information wrong its snake eyes for them. They stand to loose everything if that shit turns out to be incorrect in the end you lose nothing for looking like a fool at the end of some situation

I think my biggest worry about people forcing idols (or celebrities in general) to speak out If they have neither interest nor acknowledge is It generates more damage then good to the cause itself. It's not worth to be vocal about social issues If you are spreading misinformation in the process and not using your plataform appropriately.

Like, I remember when Justin Bieber posted about feeling sorry about Israeli civilians who died back in October and posted a photo of Gaza being completely destroyed as a background of his message, what was severely disrespectful to Palestinians.
