opinion: the gg scene is too over saturated I prob wont check out most of the groups

  • it’s too oversaturated imo. we are getting too many new ggs atp I’ll just drop k-pop and not gaf abt new groups and support the only groups I stan.

it also prevents new groups from growing a solid fanbase since fans are swayed by newer groups.

the supply is getting more than the demand. might be the downfall for k-pop ggs

  • You must be new to kpop then. 2nd were just like this and nobody complaining when the market was smaller back then compare to now. With most of the girl groups sell almost as much as bg now just confirming that it's not that oversaturated as everyone tried to make it. Rv even gain their million sellers status with all these new groups. Aespa and Itzy are selling really really good too. Few gg from small agencies able to sell 50k to 100k despite all this competition. Idk why you said it's harder to built a sold fanbase. If it's based on chart, we all know that is control by gp. Albums sales is a good indicator to see the groups' real fanbase and so far most of them keep gaining new peak each released.

im just a 3rd gen gg stan. with the big3/4 churning out new groups - hybe america, sm new gg etc, I think the pie is getting smaller.

the reason they get much is cos of k-pop growth, but they also had higher production. look at stayc declining in relevance and kep1er selling lesser each time.

A 3rd gen stans, not a surprised. Btw, as I said the market is bigger to the point it's enough for everyone. Again, if it's never a problem in 2nd gen, it will not be a problem now when kpop already expand its market internationally. I don't see a problem with hybe america, because obviously they will focus on the western market, it's just like &team that focus in Japan's market.

Again, you have no proof about the pie getting smaller. Stayc is not even declining :skull: . They just having their highest first week sales with Teddy bear, what are you even talking about? Again, if it's about chart, you basically talking about gp not a fanbase. Kep1er is not even a good example when the company is very problematic and they having a lot of internal issues that makes a lot of their fans leave.

  • If anything, it’s drowning out the boy groups. I used to check out both girl groups and boy groups evenly, but now it seems like girl groups are making all the noise.

I think girl groups are collectively benefitting from the hype at this point. I don’t know how long this will last before the bubble bursts, but it’s an interesting time.

It helps that the trendy Y2K concept works better for girl groups.

    1. they arent hyped as much as before as irc. I rmb they were like gonna be a formidable gg or sth. never said they declined in sales but relevance.

    2. charting matters more than u think since gg relies mostly on casual fanbase to get their outreach.

    3. its common sense that if supply is more than demand it limits their growth rate

I dont listen to bg but it’s kinda true :skull:

Nj seems to be at the top bcos of a diff concept. and yes there seems to be a bubble atp since the top companies are churning new gg

  • I don't think saturation of GG is the problem now
the 4th Gen GG competition is comparable to the peak of 2nd Gen era 2008-2012?

GG of the 2nd Gen is more variety due to it had sexy concept , cute or gen public friendly song
    the peak of T ara, 4minute , Kara , Sistar , Afterschool , AOA , BEG etc
    had gen public friendly song

the problem now due to lack of (popular) sexy group from mid tier to low tier /nugu

to compete a nugu -mid tier GG needed a cute/sexy viral hit
that is where the gen public support comes from

currently more upper tier GG in the 4th Gen

fandom mostly fangirls flock over GG w girl crush concept

their is a reason late 3rd Gen era
only had BP , Mamamoo, and Red Velvet as the girl crush
while earlier or some part of 3rd gen dominate by TWICE cute and cheerful concept
and Momoland cute sexy Bhoom Bhoom

  • no idea abt the 2nd gen but thanks for input

  • That's always funny to read things like this when it's time for GG comebacks that aren't BIG4.

The saturation of the market does not seem to have bothered you too much when you choose to stan Le sserafim.

I dont see how stanning lsrf and this links up. I only said this after realising thrs too many grps debuting and rmbring hybe and sm new gg.

Im not affected by stayc or the current gg release and also I rmb 3rd gen had lesser grps then.

I just think lesser gg would help any grp be it even stayc build their fanbase more

  • I don't think we've gotten to the point oversaturation just yet. I think that'll happen when a big 4 girl group flops either at debut or shortly after because nobody will care with other group comebacks. But so far every group that's come out of a big company has been doing very well. We also have groups from mid tier companies doing very well like (G)idle and IVE and low tier like Stayc so I'd say it's been pretty even.

  • There are more Groups now than ever before, and it is true that the Industry is also bigger than ever before

But this isn't a Chicken and Egg scenario,

The Industry isn't bigger because there are so many groups now, it is just more people are trying to get a piece of that now Humongous Pie

I don't think these smaller new groups are bringing new fans to Kpop, just appealing to people who are already Kpop fans of other groups, I think we are going to sadly see record numbers of group Disbandment's over the next Half Decade as the Industry re-establishes some kind of equilibrium

  • I think that way too

  • It’s hard to do the sexy concepts when the companies are debuting 13yr olds. 😞

And really young fan bases tend to move on to the newest, latest and greatest.
