new update in : SM x Hybe x Kakao Saga

If hybe and Kakao both buy alot of shares, but sm staff walk and their artists don't renew, how much financial hole the kpop industry will be in?

Cause two major company are dropping lots of money to buy sth that might end up only with its shell.

Most SM employees weren't happy that LSM was taking up all the profits while they recieved very low pay. From what I've heard, the 'SM 3.0' strategy was going to actually benefit the employees. I don't think artists and producers who work closely with LSM would be feeling the same though.

It was bc SM wasn't buying full reproduction rights. Nothing is stopping SM artists from working with their old producers and striking new deals. They can go Taylor Swift on them bc SM didn't pay.

Interesting for sure. I bet Hybe already saw the staff data which is why they are trying to soothe employees by saying he won't be involved and promising them benefits like Hybe employees get.

This is the next step in allying their investors that they aren't totally reliant on BTS....but funny time to do it, if this goes belly up they only have the members solos to keep them afloat. And if they do, the industry is going to be a market with everyone trying to grab former SM staff.

For some reason, corporate warfare is more interesting

Jobs are always made redundant and things are reorganized with a buyout. Perhaps SM employees think that Kakao will be more hands off in terms of potential reorganization because they're not strictly a music label and would have less motivation to make a lot of personnel changes.

I agree.

SM x Kakao is better for Kpop overall. SM x Hybe is just way too dominant. they would own like 80 percent of the Kpop industry's digitals and sales. Literally the only groups that could compete against them would be BP, Ive, Twice and SKZ.

SM x Kakao versus Hybe x YG is the battle i think would be healthiest for the Kpop industry. With JYP x CJENM being the third leg of the Big 3.

They still own rights to all the hits for these acts who are unlikely to do great after they leave SM.

RV re-signed a couple years ago so they have 3 years or so remaining, and not sure of EXO. MHJ will put Shinee, which she ran for some time, into Ador.

genuinely feels like there’s real risk of both companies buying a complete ghost ship, just based on how many SM employees seem to take pride in the SM identity

But where would they go? What other company could offer them the same prestige as a Hybe or Kakao-run SM?

I think we established that SHINee is now too old for MHJ

legal landscape is changing , courts are siding with artists now in trademark and discography disputes. Every single one of those groups will be fine after leaving the company bc their fandoms are theirs not bunch of company stans.

I think everyone is showing kneejerk reaction instead of thinking about this in a business mindset. From SM people to hybe and kakao.

don’t know, I don’t have the perspective of a ride-or-die SM loyalist - work conditions aren’t exactly great in entertainment companies so I imagine pride is a big factor in staying

but I imagine they could start their own companies, like the teams for BANA and ADOR

I guess this all begs the question of who would likely offer better working conditions between hybe and Kakao
