they feel like dolls parroting whatever they're being told to

atleast with groups like exo or red velvet, some concepts really fit

with shinee, it was way tooooooo campy for a real human to sing that seriously

That they are too campy or flamboyant

One thing every single person fails to consider is that , campy, glamorous and flamboyant is actually their personality. That's how they live their personal lives too, it's not just what they put on the stage.

Also SHINee is considered the SM group with the most input in their work. They are the ones who have been writing songs since their debut album, even produced for fellow SM label mates. So the argument that they have less input than other groups is just a prejudice against their style.

it's their lost, SHINee is very gem group. One of the experimental groups of the 2nd generation. SHINee also has rnb songs. If there is an argument that they do not make rnb music, they are wrong. Yes, they have experimental and funky pop songs. But in general, the album songs are definitely in rnb density. I guess I'm used to experimental bsides that I'm a Red Velvet fan. That's why SHINee music appealed to me exactly. But it may not appeal to everyone because it is too unique and intense. I'm usually a girl group fan, but SHINee was a first for me. I thought I would never be a boy group fan. Then I discovered Taemin. Generally, I think it's hard to get into the fan base of 2nd generation groups.

I just never have the time to dig into the discography to find what I would like.

I know people love that 2nd gen sound but I find some of the cheesy EDM off-putting that was popular, so it takes some patience to dig through that to find the other stuff.
