It's really not rocket science.

Exactly I don't get it.

BTS aren't known for their ballads, it's their pop dance songs. But to be fair, the main reason why Yet To Come didn't do well was the song itself. It had so much potential as it did go #1 on Melon, but failed to keep its position.

This was BigBang's first comeback in a really long time. People got more touched by the song and its lyrics, which are really meaningful and beautiful. Not saying Yet to Come isn't, but I guess the circumstances of BB's comeback may have made the song resonate more with the casual listeners.

The timing of the release may have had an influence too. Usually, Koreans seem to enjoy softer/calmer songs in spring months, and more upbeat songs when the weather gets warmer which was when Yet to Come came out (June).

Also, BigBang has always been a digital monster. It's not surprising that their first song after a huge hiatus made it so big.

Either way, I don't think YTC underperformed that much.

Still life is a masterpiece, a work of art. Yet to come sounded like it was sung by teens struggling with celebrity disease. Koreans definetely don't care about that. Next time, they should just stick to what they are good at which is dancing and singing nananana songs.

It's an anomaly. Such things rarely happen. It also had a beautiful choreo if it helps, which their none of their ballads lately had. I sometimes think that people forget that BTS is still a dance group. That's their biggest strength!

They were both mid songs.

SL benefited from the fact that it was their first comeback after so long and after so many scandals and people were curious. Some Koreans wanted to have something to bash them for, some others have convinced themselves that BB is one of the very few idols to make trendy/ swaggy and/or artistic music, despite the troubles with the law.

That makes people disregard the many scandals.

YTC was underwhelming. It was the comeback after quite a long album hiatus and people expected something more and something better and the song didn't deliver. The average Korean doesn't relate to the meaning of the song and they don't care for what they sing any in that song. Only fans would relate and care for it but it was the whole anthology fiasco and the hiatus announcement that threw the fandom off. People were too disappointed and shocked to care about the charts. From all the BTS songs, it's the one that matters the less if it doesn't do well because that was the point.

Kpop fans thought the same when in 2018 'Flower Road' got 1.4m ULs on the first day and 'Fake Love' and 'IDOL' couldn't but today 'Fake Love' & 'IDOL' both surpassed 5m ULs back in 2020 while 'Flower Road' still hasn't.

Always be cautious when you are shading BTS because it always comes back to bite your ass. Especially people like you hardy. I mean you don't remember how embarrassed you were about all your predictions threads before 'Dynamite' that you even went on "hiatus" from forum?

If BTS was actually "fandom-driven" as you lot like to think YTC would have actually done 10 weeks at #1 on GAON. Because fandom would have pushed harder because of the message of the song. But that doesn't fit your narrative, right?
