is it good or bad if Wonyoung get a female lead role on Kdrama?

  • I'd love to see her in a high school drama. She should start off slow though - either a supporting role for a tv drama or be a lead (or secondary lead) for a webdrama.

  • I don't think giving her a lead role right away is a good idea, but I think she would do well in a supporting role in a good show like maybe in Squid Game 2?

edit: It's not that I don't think Wonyoung isn't popular enough to get a lead role it's just that Knetz tend to be vicious when it comes to idol actors, especially ones that obviously got casted not based on their skills but on their popularity. Wonyoung is a very smart and studious girl though, so I have no doubt if she were casted she would take her role seriously and put in lots of practice.

  • It can go both ways, as seen in the past

    The "Suzy" curse

Suzy debuted in Dream High(2011) , following her group's massive debut year. Miss A in 2010 won Daesang and achieved #1 on Gaon Digital, I believe they are still the only group to win a Daesang with their debut song(?)

Anyways Dream High blew up and she received offers left and right. She worked as an idol and actress and that boosted her popularity to be the #1 IT Girl , affecting the group as she outshined others and JYP never really pushed the other 3 as individuals. IIRC JYP tried to push Jia in China yet she struggled to build a solid fanbase

Yoona & Taeyeon , The Lucky Charm

In 2008, Yoona was the lead for You Are My Destiny, she had done two cameos before around the time SNSD debuted. With 41.5% viewers rating, she achieved two 'Best New Actress' Awards, being the first idol-actress to win such awards. Taeyeon, on the other and recorded 2 OSTs with 'If' making a buzz in Korea. She managed to chart high on charts before her group with 'If' and gained multiple variety show offers. In January 2009, with Taeyeon & Yoona being widely known by the public, SNSD released Gee and the rest is history.

I believe if Starship want to push Wonyoung as an actress, it would be a Suzy-like route. Tbh they should let others in the group(Gaeul or Leeseo for example) to start acting as cameos and WY to gain as many solo CFs as she could get. Her being an actress on IVE's rookie year seems risky even with the presence of Yujin. Yujin should do more variety, she's fun to watch

    I

    For

  • Great idea for her solo career, but bad idea for her group and her members.

Wonyoung getting a lead role on a legit Kdrama would let her get a headstart in her solo career and get her name out there past the teenage crowd and into the legit GP world. Obviously the big question is whether she can really act or not, but it's still experience and if it works out, it's like winning the lottery.

But for her group, most of them would most likely be sitting on the sidelines (except Yujin) for like 8 months, unless they have a unit comeback or something. And if Wonyoung's acting career really works out, they will slowly be phased out while Wonyoung continues to get jobs as an actress.

I think it will be a bad idea because IVE has gotten good response from the public and the group thing can really work out. For other Produce groups like Gugudan, Sejeong and Mina could continue acting because Jellyfish fucked up in the first place, and it wasn't really worth investing their time into the group anyway, so it was better to focus their time in acting - and look how good it turned out now.

  • There's no reason for her to get into acting now. Her group is doing well, and it would be much smarter for Starship to continue investing into IVE.

Also, there aren't a lot of legit roles Wonyoung can play. The only realistic ones are students or maybe the younger version of the main lead - and no production team would be crazy enough to pay Wonyoung to play 1-2 mins of screentime when there's a lot more cheaper and better options out there with many young actresses.

The most likely drama role would be the School series if it gets another installment, but there's no need to rush her into acting when she's still very young and has her whole solo career ahead of her when her group eventually disbands.
