I can easily see that being the surge for her follower count, and the other Twice members may be gaining because of it too.

I'm not sure if I agree to the conclusion just yet about buying the followers, however the people just dismissing a rather observable anomaly as "just popular" don't understand how trends and data work. There has to be a specific external factor for a change such as that.

Nayeon is possible because of solo teasers, but 2 others also following the same pattern at the same time with the same shift in trends?

@ OP - Viral YT shorts and Tik Toks can often drive sudden engagement, I would examine if there's been a sudden viral tik tok or YT short that has shot up massively and driven engagement, before concluding it's purchased.

tbh a lot of celebs and influencers buy followers. often they'll buy more to kind of jumpstart the algorithm so they'll gain real followers who see their numbers and think they want to follow too. it's not even that expensive to buy them.

it's kind of weird but maybe jyp is trying to balance out the numbers between members so they don't seem like anyone is being left out? idk. it could be something else also, you never really know. they haven't had instagram accounts that long though, nobody is going to shoot straight to 100 mil followers overnight. there'll probably be dips and jumps as time goes on

Nayeon solo teasers started to drop. She was also going viral on TikTok a few days ago. Plus, SKZ fans probably followed her as well.

Momo just uploaded a new dance video which has over 3.2M views, surely that helped with her followers.

I don't know about JY, but its not bought followers. If JYPE wanted to, they would have done that when she was struggling to hit 4M followers and every member had reached that mark, instead of doing it now.

Moreover, if you actually observed the stats properly, you would see other idols had a huge jump in followers too but of course, singling out TWICE when it hasn't been a month since they opened their accounts.

Instagram is serious about such matters. If they find suspicious activity, they will be quick enough to delete the account. So I really doubt that's what is happening here.

once again, big influencers and celebrities are Instagram's top priority. They are a bit partial towards them.

It also has to do with Insta's algorithm that spots bot activity. If you're able to get away from the algorithm, you're safe. But from what I've seen, it's easier to hack an IG account then being prevented from bot activity, so there's that.

it looks like it was just a regular surge in followers? Looking at the 2nd graph, it looks like there were other idols who had high increases out of nowhere also. Twice are the epitome of organic popularity
