2009 the Kpop sound changed and became much more interesting for international ears compared to the 4 years before. Nowadays people would call it the beginning of a new generation XD but back then it continued to be the same Gen like 2004-2008, that’s why the new shift isn’t seen clearly if you didn’t lived through it..

Stop arguing guys, it’s stupid.
And Drew, you’re right with the stuff you say about older groups, but you always disrespect BTS and that’s where you’re wrong.
Maybe it’s their fans who are pissing you off (I assume), but Bangtan themselves didn’t do anything to you, so no reason to constantly goof on them. They will definitely go down in history and no hate thread on a forum will change that...

Has anything recent happened with them? Like did a member go on a popular show or something? This is interesting because groups like SKZ, ATEEZ, etc, have never appeared on the Gaon Digital Chart but a relatively unknown group has.
Anyway congrats to them, their song is good. I also really liked MAYDAY and nostalgic night from them
Isn’t it sad that this is a legitimate question? It’s almost never about the music quality with Kpop on SK-Charts. Always something blew up or a show created a boost in popularity most of the time...

Difficult to compare. Victon started in 2016 and only The Boyz & Stray Kidz (both 2017/18) are old enough to had similar time to build a Korean fanbase (getting i-fans is a faster process nowadays). And we’re talking about digitals, not physicals. In that perspective only The Boyz charted one time on the 100 (& TXT three times). The rest didn’t, but they’re still rookies (and from the big companies).

This song from them deserved it too 1 year ago. ♥️

...that isn’t from the Big 4. Victon made it! Congratulations to the boys on the new entry at #78 on Gaon with „What I Said“. :)

Anyway, Victon made many good songs and I hope they become mainstream now.

Every produce group was big and would be even bigger if not time limited, but for me I.O.I. were the most charismatic and interesting one from the bunch. Everything Iz*One achieved, I.O.I. probably would have achieved too by now after 4-5 years, if the idiots of Mnet wouldn’t disband them (and give them better contracts so that all involved companies would agree).

OP's example sounds really awful xD, and I agree about the „if you’re not writing your own stuff then you’re not a real one“ and also that most Kpop songs could go without Rap.
BUT, I disagree about flow & if K-Rap or Idol rap sounds actually bad (for the ears).
First of all, different ears are used to different stuff. Some Americans (I experienced) call the most basic EDM stuff „noise“, while I know and heard some European EDM from the 90's, which sounds so out of this world and alien-like, that the thing they call „noise“ is nothing compared to it... XD So it isn’t objective to claim something as bad sounding only from the sound. (Personal example, I think Ateez Mingi's rap voice is annoying, but in France e.g. they love deep rap voices and they’d love him)..
Second, we can’t judge on a language we don’t understand! When I was a kid, I thought the American rap style was very boring, because I couldn’t understand what they said (and I was used to fast rapping from Eurodance lol), so I thought only Busta Rhymes & Missy Elliot were good, 'cause they had an interesting vibe. Later when I could understand the words & meaning, I started to appreciate the Oldschool more.
Same with Korean and Kpop/KRap! It’s not up to us non-Koreans to rate the flow and delivery - we don’t have the feeling for the language and we don’t understand the words right away. (Reading it afterwards isn’t the same too). So only Koreans can tell which KRap is good and which is not.

The music lift up my mood. The groups and their content give me a good time. The positive fans are enjoyable to talk too and very eager & competitive. The annoying & bad fans are cancer.

It’s unfortunate. Like mentioned before here, after their hit „Shine“ the Dawn thing happened and now after some recognition with „Daisy“ (a win & rising album sales) Hui is enlisted...
At least that talented guy Hui must have some money from songwriting credits (especially for Wanna One's „Energetic“).
