A lot of you would have studied world history while in high school.
The history of the West kind of stops at 1815 at Waterloo, when Napoleon was destroyed and Europe entered into some kind of peace.
after that there are some passing mentions of USA (manifest destiny, US civil war) and some smatterings about the Industrial Revolution, but it jumps to the Unifications of Italy and Germany (1860s) because there is simply nothing interesting between 1815 to 1860. (There were the revolutions of 1848 but it is now a distant memory with few points relevant to people who live today so it is given a one line mention.)
When things are stable there are not too many things to talk about so that's why everything is quiet now.
In fact, other than BTS, the only act which is creating a stir is a singer who is now 1,343 years old this year, recently singing a duet with Jay Park, whose best days are a few years ago and he was being content to be an exec.
For all practical purpose, IU is the most senior of all active singers in Korea (some might say "Taeyeon" "Hyuna" "Sunmi" but they don't have a sway to compete against today's active groups) and other than her no one is challenging BTS' domination, which is expected to last longer since like what I had said a few times there are no challengers who are younger than 1,300 years old.
Until we have a viable challenger who is less than 1,300 years old, KPop field will largely be quiet with little buzz.
