Kakao buys SM

HOLY COW.
I thought CJ was going to be the first big player in Kpop by buying SM but it turns out to be Kakao instead.
We need WhyKnock to give his deep dive analysis into the consolidation of Kpop.
In 10 years, i think the Big 4 will just be a memory, all the current labels will be acquired by giant conglomerates, just like how Warner, Sony and UMG control the US music market.
CJ, Kakao, and perhaps one more giant corporate entity (Naver? Samsung? )will end up running Korea's music industry.

Lee Soo-man SM Entertainment Executive Producer
Kakao embraces SM Entertainment, Korea's representative entertainment agency . With this acquisition, Kakao plans to be reborn as a representative entertainment agency in Korea. According to the investment banking ( IB ) industry on the
11th , Kakao Entertainment (Kakao Entertainment), an entertainment affiliate of Kakao, is in final negotiations to acquire an 18.72 % stake held by SM Entertainment's largest shareholder, Lee Soo-man, executive producer. It is reported that the deal is being discussed in a way that Kakao Enter will take over all of the producer's stake, and then the producer will reinvest in Kakao Entertainment. Kakao Entertainment plans to increase its stake by acquiring new shares to be issued by SM Enter. The total transaction amount is around KRW 1 trillion. The two sides plan to sign a stock purchase agreement ( SPA ) as early as next week.
As for SM Entertainment, CJ Group was originally mentioned as a potential takeover candidate, but it is known that negotiations between the two sides broke down at the end of last year. The two sides agreed on the transaction amount in a broad framework, but it is reported that they could not narrow their differences on business plans such as Metaverse and Non-Fungible Token ( NFT ) in the future. SM afterAs Enter resumed negotiations with Kakao, the negotiations between the two sides took off.
With the acquisition of SM
Entertainment, Kakao is expected to become one of the top three entertainment agencies in Korea along with Hybe and YG Entertainment. Kakao's acquisition of SM Entertainment is an extension of its efforts to take the lead in the global content market with Naver. Although Kakao Entertainment has dozens of affiliates such as Antenna, many evaluated that it lacked competence compared to Naver. Now , by joining hands with SM Entertainment, it is expected that the intellectual property rights of SM Entertainment stars will be applied to the Kakao platform to increase their influence in the global market.
An IB industry official said, "Kakao continued to show interest in the acquisition to SM Entertainment even when this producer was negotiating with CJ . " I know it has been fully accepted,โ he said.

All these SM acts, old and young, now have to bow to Lee Jieun, the most senior entertainment figure of all of Kakao.

As long as it's not foreign investors ITS GOOD
Shit would have hit the turbo jet if the reports of selling to Chinese investors were true

Which will be super weird and clearly biased since IU's company is literally under Kakao for so many years now yet no one even chirp about it.
Also is that twitter account the army infested source one? Judging by the replies and qrts there seems to be a lot of 7s floating around. And they're talking about Monopoly when Hybe controlled 33% of the market, I have to laugh.
