What made you join a fandom/stan?

I liked multiple albums in a row by the artist and I wanted to stay informed on their future activities
-
For me, I was a huge fan of girls generation until around 2013, when I had a pause from Kpop. When I came back to Kpop in 2017 it was just natural to start following their little sisters red velvet and I ended up stanning them. I've also always had a thing for sm groups I really liked fx as well, but never stanned.

hmmm the concept of a fandom name was a little weird to me at the beginning
i used to follow a few bts instagram fan accs and they all called themselves army and that was weird to me lol like why army?
i did not interact with any fellow bts fans for a long time lol
i think the first time i felt a sense of collectiveness was when i went to watch a bts movie and i got to meet sooo many fans, we were singing songs outloud in the theatre, some fans brought a few bts merch items they were sharing with everyone etc. so that was the first time i identified myself as an army ig
nowadays i have some close moots on twitter i ramble and rant about bts with and ig thats what gives me that feeling of collectiveness
so i think the listening to bts music part really did not have much of a relation to being a part of the fandom for me
i think i had heard their whole discography within the first 6 months but i preferred calling myself a fan of bts music but it was the interaction with other fans that gave me the feeling that i was joining a fandom lol

Combination of stuff. Need to like multiple aspects of a group to consider myself part of the fandom.
-
i wrote a whole essay
-
If I'm emotionally attrached to the artist.
There are a lot of groups I love the whole discography, a lot of groups I admire the members' talents, a lot of groups with good variety content that I like, but If I'm not emotionally attrached, then I'm just a casual listener or follower.

i honestly have zero clue

Usually music and I like the members

well let's take black level for example. i've been following htem since the moment i heard they are re-debuting 2 members from seven o'clock, I was a HUGE fan of seven o'clock when they disbanded. Hangyeom one of my other biases went to Omega X and i checked monthly to see what was going on with my other bias Taeyoung i found out they are debuting in Black Level. i'm already a fan I didn't need to hear them. Then they started performing their own written, arranged, and composed songs on that K-Stage stuff and i LOVED their sound, i'm hooked. now they are debuting.
Same with omega x i was curious about them, once the members started getting revealed and i found out about Enoi, 1the9, and seven o'clock members, i was golden didn't even need to hear them i'm there. let's go.
So i will stan a group if ti's new and they are debuting members from groups i used to enjoy. or if they catch my attention, which is usually by their looks and then i follow to see their sound etc. I know nothing about how Blank2y is going to sound other then they nabbed taewoo from 1the9, Avin from Enoi and Youngbin from I-land, i know how avin and taeewoo sound and Youngbin from watching i-land so i'm curious to see how the group is going to look. They have an interesting way of what they are doing so i'm kinda sitting here wondering what's next.
I consider myself a fan and, in the fandom, if it's a group that i buy things for, listen to constantly, support etc.
-
I like groups with a lot of content but I also have to either love multiple albums or for newly debuted groups be blown away (Oneus and Ateez were debut stanned). However there are a few groups that even though they have great content and great music I just don't vibe with for some reason? For those I end up just calling myself a casual fan

I would say the music and the idol's personality. Sometimes seeing a good part of a fandom. If I don't like a part of the fandom, I ignore the fandom and move on, appearance never has or will matter to me, and I couldn't care less which company they are from as long as they are being treated well. As for scandals, if it something I can forgive, there is more than a 90% chance that I have. I consider myself too forgiving as is already. Have a great day/night!

I became a MY because I liked Aespa's black mamba concept photos, I became a Stay because of how much I liked Bang Chan, and I loved the groups chemistry, I became a Nctzen because of Nct 127 and their chemistry, and I became a moa because of Soobin. I actually haven't become a stan because of music in a while. If I like the members I'll stan, the music is just a bonus.

Is this for real?

Of course.

Of course.
So you stan for the members or the content?

So you stan for the members or the content?
Both! But it depends on if the content is good or not.

Just out of interest but what do you think is good content?
-
-
-
Music, members personality and overall content.
If I like those 3 in a group then I'll want to follow it closely
What makes it worth it content wise?
I never watch anything lol

For me personally anything where I can see the members doing non music related stuff and just having fun.
From basic interviews to game shows or even to their own reality shows.
For example this hello82 mini show of Itzy with kids was huge in helping me choose to stan them cause of how sweet they were with the kids

their songs

becoming a fan usually requires more than music
sure music may or may not be a necessity since for me it's always about the members and their personalities and interactions with each other...
if I can't find that then sure I can listen to their music (eg. I listen to a lot of BG music but I wouldn't say I'm a fan)

I didn’t mean to fall into the kpop rabbit hole. It was during the time when I kept hearing and seeing BTS everywhere and I decided to see what the fuss was about. Saw a couple of their MVs then stumbled upon 2NE1 after that. Thought to myself “Ok, ok this genre isn’t bad.” Kept checking other groups for a bit. Then I saw Good Boy by GD and Taeyang. I was mesmerized. Decided to check out more of their songs and saw Bae Bae. I was hooked and Bigbang replaced Boys II Men and Guns N’ Roses as my favorite group.

It’s mostly something they do in the beginning of their career it seems?

So the more the artists show of themselves - unscripted goofyness?

So you’ll have a happy spring this year I guess 🥴

Music.
Then I look into the members.
Watch shows with them to get to know their characters.
With Txt this was fine. But I wanted to find out more about them and joined the forum to lurk around the guild and ask questions.
But I was so comfortable with the guild members that I have been stuck.
Moa on twitter are different, not perfect but I am generally good to filter out the good accounts who share gifs, news, info about them.
