Is the 3rd Gen Kpop fading away already?

I understand what you mean... all (well, most) good things come to an end sadly... at least most groups haven't properly disbanded yet. There's more to come.

No, I do not think so. Obviously the new gproups are fresher and trendier but I think the 3rd generation is still active.

SEVENTEEN, TWICE, BTS, Red Velvet, and NCT all had comebacks last year. 3rd gen isn't as widespread or "trendy" as it was back in 2015-19, but it's very much still alive and has room for growth which is still happening. 4th gen is rising, yes. But there hasn't been a full-scale takeover like 2015 yet.

Well, 3rd Gen started 10 years ago, so it's not surprising that it's time is coming to a close. The Kpop gods needed a sacrifice to jumpstart the rise of 4th Gen and they got it when Izone was sabotaged. Their farewell concert in March of last year heralded the rise of 4th gen. Immediately after their defacto end, we saw StayC come out of nowhere with ASAP, then Aespa following it up with Next Level. Now we've seen Izone Vor Ever come out with a smash hit of their own, Eleven.

Next year will be an all out war with JYPNGG and HYBENGG joining the fray.

Yes, it isn’t as wide spread because it’s so hard to have longevity in kpop, and back then no 4th gen existed.

Let’s see how many of these 4th gen groups are relevant in 2025, because with all these newer debuts half of these 4th gen groups ain’t gonna last at the top. It’s sad but that’s how it is

It's hard to be relevant past the 6 year mark but amazingly even MX and OMG are still active and pushing out new content. Mamamoo and GOT7 are all active as soloists too. GFriend is carving out their own path (VIVIZ and Yuju solo debut). They're not irrelevant, just not as trendy.

Here's a chart I made for another thread. The Third Generation is still in front as far as music show wins are concerned.

even if a group continues, a number of members likely won't re-sign and output will be lower

but 4th gen looks amazing and already found new gg to stan

i feel like its a weird place right now cause while yes 4th gen groups are doing well and for example at 2021 award shows, it was mainly 4th gen groups performing...

however 3rd gen groups are still leading

BTS and BP are still leading for bgs and ggs

NCT and SVT had physical sales growth

Twice also grew their sales and had the best selling gg album in 2021 (as well as were the best selling gg of the year on gaon) and grew internationally with The Feels.

so imo no they aren't fading away. 4th gen is growing but 3rd gen is still leading.

I think they are still around but on the edge.

I think they're fine.

Groups are trendy for the first few years of their career,and later on they focus on maintaining and upgrading their existing fandom.That's just kind of how it goes.

I think this is enough to prove that 3rd is not even close to fading away.

3rd gen is still leading, but already past their peak for most groups. 4th gen's success is just beginning but slowly gaining traction.

This is a tired subject ik but I think of it more as an era than artists. As an era, it's 4th Gen. Doesn't mean the leading artists need to be 4th gen, it's more like who and what is active and is thriving in this era.

If it's about leading then some would say wait for IU to stop thriving in order to say the 2nd gen is over.

That’s not true the only current 4th gen groups which are making moves right now are Itzy, Aespa, Stayc and IVE in the 3rd gen we have BP, Twice, Red Velvet, OMG and Mamamoo

When it comes to BG we have BTS,NCT and SVT and groups like Astro, Monsta X...etc. Are reaching a new height 4th gen : Enhypen, SKZ, TXT, ATEEZ

The transition is slow, but it's inevitable. It will even be forced at some point (non-renewal, military enlistment). But currently 3rd gen groups are still dominating.

slowly big 3rd gen groups will have less and less comebacks it`s just natural sadly, but they will still remain relevant like SNSD and Big Bang and some other 2nd gen groups are even during 4th gen

this is why u should all stan NCT they will be active even during 15th gen when everybody else will be long disbanded
