I Agree with everything Mera has said in this video and also this comment.
Oversaturation of content seem to be one of the bigger problems, and not just in kpop. As a fan it's always great to see as much as we can of artist that we like, but I feel like getting so much in such a short amount of time can be very tiring, especially for multistans. For example, as someone who likes to learn choreos, it was very apparent that people who make dance tutorials were really overworked because they tried to do as many comebacks as possible, but in the end they had to take breaks and weren't able to manage all of it. Not to mention how much the idols must be overwhelmed as well. Everything is about being faster louder bigger than everyone else just to stand out. Honestly, just being in the community can feel tiring from the amount of content. Of course I like to see artists that I like but it is also important for them to find their own pace so they can comfortably create and enjoy the art together with their fans, and if that means slowing down a little then so be it
Same here with this video. Tell me what do you think?
i think the pandemic has had a pretty significant effect on the industry as well. a lot of nugu groups (cough favorite) haven’t been able to come back since their smaller companies can’t keep up after shutting down for so long. so now, because of that, we’re missing a whole chunk of music that we’d usually have, one that’s often really good imo and can provide variety when the big groups are stagnating
I think the recent growth and success of Kpop has gotten to these companies' heads. Especially the big companies. Every artist from the big companies is selling more and more than they ever have before since Kpop has gotten so popular. Even IU who has been extremely successful her whole career has sold over 300k on her last album which She was never able to achieve before, She has always completely owned digitals but her physical sales were never that high. More and more groups are hitting the million sales mark which used to be so rare back during 2nd-3rd gen. It's also the fact that Kpop idols form a bond with their fans, so much so that they could come out with horrible songs and the fans would eat it up anyways. And that's what we have been seeing so far this year unfortunately. I used to love NCT and I still like them but the quality just started going down and then Sticker dropped and I knew I was done. Aespa are coming out with a recycled version of their songs and taking a page out of blackpink's book and fans are eating it up. Blackpink are nowhere to be seen yet if they dropped even just a photo book, it would sell out in millions. I was shocked at Lisa's money, She is by far my bias in Blackpink and for her to drop a song with that kind of lyrics just ain't it. I feel like the only company truly branching out is JYP with Twice but that's not working out in their favor since people complain about the change of sound but I actually enjoy it. Alcohol free was fresh and new, even though I'm not a big fan of the song. I always used to be a big YG and SM fan (BigBang and Girl's generation are like deities to me,and that's what got me into all their other groups for years later) but 2 Kpop generations later, I can;t help but feel that they're just playing us at this point trying to see how much recycled and/or bad music they can pump out and we'll gobble it up. Maybe it's because I'm way older now too (27), I might have felt different if I were still a teen.
