Groups that are called digital monsters but aren’t
-
-
I didn't know these groups were called digimons, I agree that they aren't
-
-
Apart from WINNER, the others weren’t called digital monsters.
There was a time where almost all of Winners songs were hits… but it went down after Island
I have seen many calling BTOB and Ikon digimons that’s why I added them. I guess since they both have big songs for some kpop stans that’s enough.
-
I actually think WINNER had the potential to be digital monsters If all their songs fit in Korean's taste.
Because I remember all their songs used to start very promising at the top of the charts, even If sometimes they didn't have too much longevity. Whenever they comeback, they used to get attention.
BTOB and iKON to get attention depended on the songs and their digital performance was pretty unstable.

I think they were, Mr. Mr. was a stumbling block but Party and Lion Heart did well. Holiday did meh.
-
I think the question should be broken down into groups which WERE called digimons and now not
compared to groups currently called digimons but aren't

Bro all these groups were digital monsters, all you all mentioned. Most of these groups aren't topping charts anymore but that doesn't mean they weren't digital monsters. They are all past theie prime.

Iirc Party and Lion Heart ranked at #44 and #59 on Gaon Year End Digital Chart, personally I won't call it "well" enough for an act who were supposed to have a digimon status.

IGAB and The Boys didnt do that well either despite being among their biggest hits , right ?

The Boys did well (it got certified for 2.5M downloads). IGAB did ok too, 1M+ downloads especially for a 2013 song.

To be fair, it depends on what you call a digital monster. The term was originally not just for groups that constantly put out smash title tracks. Acts like Sistar, 2ne1, IU, Big Bang were called that because even their b-sides would storm the charts.
Later, people started to use it for acts that consistently did well with title tracks. So among the ones discussed in here, only TWICE was ever really considered digital monsters in the latter sense.

Red velvet prolly
No one calls red velvet a digimon .
This i agree with. The way people used to praise them for getting 200M points. I think it has stopped now.
-
iKON weren't digital monsters but they had 3 songs that did well on the charts
love scenario, my type and rhythm ta winner did much better than iKON digitally though

Those groups were at a point, digital monsters
But obviously they arent anymore
With regards to people who brought up SNSD, SNSD at their later stage wasnt as much a digital monster as their songs despite popular, were not really doing THAT well on chart as compared to their earlier stage (same with Twice now).
-
GSD was a flash in the pan for like 4 songs.
They were once a top 5 GG but the stupid dumpling incident totally killed their momentum
Same with AOA. Their historical figure controversy also killed their momentum.
Otherwise, they would still be churning out hits after hits and likely be called digital monsters
