This is their nth time doing ca again. funny thing is orbits are trying to defend them saying this is not cultural appropriation but cultural appreciation, only those who are claiming this is not ca are orbits themselves. As a native american i can confirm olivia hye's scene is definitely ca. if it was some other group then reaction of orbits would have been completely different. so much hypocrisy.

  • I'm multi-stan and I only can talk about Olivias case here. It's not CA because I saw a video of native people reacting to kpop artists using feathers wearing furs etc and they said it was ok, and that kids weren't doing anything wrong.

2-3 native american people reacting on some kpop video does not represent all of us

  • As an Indian, I don't mind the maang tikka (the jewelry on their forhead) they are wearing. I am cool with those kind of things and I am not sure if they were actually trying to actually wear the maang tikka since it is a silver color and doesn't look like the traditional maang tikka.

Same. I won't be speaking on behalf of the majority of Indians. But personally, as an Indian I don't feel mad about it, it doesn't even look like the traditional ones.

Yeah, but I am 95% sure if I go to the street and ask if they find it offensive they will either say no or laugh at my face lol. Heck where I come from in India(Kerala) these things are considered appreciation not appropriation.

  • what an individual thinks about it doesn't changes the fact that loona are talking elements from other cultures which doesn't belong to them in any way and are using it for aesthetic and commercial purpose

It's an artistic expression. They didn't rob anything from anyone. People still have their cultures, they didn't lose it overnight because of Loona.

Did you create an account just for this?

  • Most of us are really welcoming towards Non-desis. Idk how maang tikka became an issue of Indian CA.

I didn't even know what CA was until I became interested in kpop lol. Some of the CA things just don't make any sense. Especially the Indian ones. I always thought no one found a problem with sharing cultures and stuff.

  • I feel like this is closer to the festival look - which is definitely based on these things. Headdresses are a part of many cultures. So because I'm wiccan I should say they're appropriating my religion because they have on a headdress? Does the Soobin in my DP count because we wear the same thing during rituals?

I personally don't understand the logic here.

Yes there are actual cases of CA, but this one is not that in my opinion.

A lot of people don't even know Sicilians wore ornate headdresses in the olden times. People always leave us out of this argument too.

I feel like something as simple as a silver headdress, with really no meaning behind it religiously or culturally, shouldn't be taken so seriously. As I stated before, headdress is a part of almost EVERY culture.

  • 2-3 native american people reacting on some kpop video does not represent all of us

I am half Cherokee and I do not see the issue, they were wearing normal feathers that are not ceremonial feathers or chief headresses or the chief's guard's feathers. :eyes: You do realize there is a difference and the photos you shared are NOT the same tribal clothing right? India's people and Native Americans are not the same culture :pepewhat: So saying a couple of Native Americans do not represent all of us when you made a comment earlier mainly mentioning the Indian dressings being an issue but not realizing they are two different cultures that you have here in OP, is kinda :pepe-cross: not okay.

Kind of off topic, but how does one know if the feather is ceremonial or not? Like clearly the ones you buy at Michaels aren't going to be, but is there a special process? I am always interested in these things.

SAMMMMMMEEEE. Personally, I used to feel proud instead of blame CA. And the maang teeka here doesn't even make sense, LMAOOO.

Sorry but you are one person and at least in the video I saw was like 5-6 people so...

  • At this point Korean idols should wear only the hanbok to be safe. The Japanese members the kimono and the Chinese members the qipao.

Then you'll have all the historic fans screaming that the Hanbok is just taken from the Hanfu, and the Kimono the clothing from the Han dynasty. I don't think we'll ever have a way to avoid the CA mess we're living in now. No matter what they wear, for any reason, stuff like this is going to happen. And it's really frustrating. When everyone wants to grab something and claim it as 'theirs' in a world where many things all come from one or a smaller root, it's a never-ending cycle.

It's nice to think there's something we can do to end it LOL

  • For me it looks like something that could look similar to something cultural, but is actually just a headdress, (Head Chain), that is inspired by something.

My question would now be, aren’t Indians selling these things to non-Indians too ? I have 3 of them and my friend Rabina from India bought them for me after visiting India after her wedding. Also they are selling these things to tourists too. So is it really CA if Indians are making money from their own accessories with non-Indians?

Also it’s not like they are making money by wearing those. It’s not part of their brand, a driving force of their career nor do they claimed it as their own idea. And they are also not wearing it to mock anybody. So it’s technically not CA.

  • I better not see any Koreans laughing at the immigrant Indian auntie going to the convenience store in Indian attire, a bindi, and a mang tikka since they love using it for aesthetics so much.

And therein lies the problem. When Koreans do stuff like this, it's 'cool' and 'edgy'. But, my friend (who is brown like me) had to face insults from old people and judgemental snickers when she went to the subway in a salwar kameez and a bindi for a religious gathering at her Indian's friend's house for Holi (when she was living in Korea).

    SORRY I JUST REALIZED I WROTE A F***ING ESSAY :waterr::sweatr:

  • Cultural appropriation is if they are insulting or making fun of a culture.. Otherwise it shouldn't be a problem. And the jewelry is common not only in South Asia but also in Middle Eastern and Central Asian countries.

Because most Indians don't care if you wear these. Including me, a lot of people make a big deal out of it and use the "when Indians wear these kind of things they get made of fun card". As long as people don't make fun of it I don't mind it. I am not gonna force someone else not to wear something because when I wore it I got made fun off, because the likely hood is that those people that wear them are genuinely like it and are wearing them because they think it is nice and pretty.

I just watched it and um... this appears to be a Viking headdress anyways.... :sweatr:

Exactly… the ones mocking and laughing will mostly likely not even wear it in the first place… unless they want to mock it. And they will definitely not think it’s cool and edgy if they see their own people wearing it, but will find it weird and will make fun of it as well.

  • Would be nice to see them appropriate 20 other cultures as well, just to hear the woke mob cry :danceb: .

Not OP though, who's clearly an alt account ^^ .

The bigger problem is Heejin's visuals for this comeback. I'm deeply saddened by the bleached hair and overall look, it's just not flattering. Bring back Why Not visuals with the face bracelet or whatever it is lol.

Even if you are right this would make it even easier because no one in Nordic countries would "cry" over it.
