do you think sm expected aespa success this early

Nah I dont think they did. Aespa haven't even tried yet and rumours of new members joining. SM was hoping for better success than black mamba but I dont think they thought next level would be the breakout song.

Judging by the money they spend MV's on their concept. Of course they were waiting. Also I think Black Mamba was good song, they just didn't get much promo. I wish they did a little more promo. If Sm had promoted Black Mamba more, They would have risen higher in Melon at that time.

SM groups dont get big from the start but gain much more attention in the 1st or 2nd comeback more.. (there are exceptions though)
Looking at how SM gave them a remake and highly experimental song, they probably weren't expecting the chart success...
People were confused over the song for days but then it grew on everyone..
if they wanted them to succeed with gp they would have easily given a public-friendly song which was more easy to the ears, SM knows how to do that...
its surprising that the song is doing this well

its really amazing seeing them now its just like yesterday they were getting a lot of hate for like basically everything even making bullying and drugs rumors and the whole chinese company collab thing.

Next Level is really like HYLT to me. At first listen it was all over the place but as time pass by it gets more popular. I won’t be surprised if that was the plan. No label will invest heavily into expensive concepts if they don’t plan for the act to be successful.

I think they expect it to be sucessful especially if compared to Black Mamba, but not THIS sucessful.

You can say there is a lot of interest, and hype, for a group with 3 songs out. If you mute all that noise, realistically, SME hasn't given the group a smash yet. If their first song sounded like a strong international smash and they followed up with the "Forever" remake, I think that would have been good momentum coming into some kind of title track for an album.
At least for me, I'm waiting for SME to come with a proper BIG-3 smash for Aespa. They have worked with American producers who actually set trends, so what's really the problem? Partner up with them properly and Aespa can have songs that are internationally strong.
BTS and Blackpink are known in my neck of the woods, but so far, only Blackpink is getting blasted in random cars. All that could change if SME gets the right material at least for Aespa's album cuts. They can keep pushing the basic songs as title tracks if they want. Almost anything that isn't a ballad can top the charts.
If some of the album tracks are the quality of Ariana Grande's "NASA" and Doja Cat's "Streets", that would be cool. I actually would blast them too. Not many female groups I can think of are doing a contemporary R'N'B sound, like these tracks, that well in K-Pop. Add 2, 3, and 4-part harmonies to that, because SME teaches everybody how to hold a note, and you have the start of a distinct lane for Aespa's non-title track catalog in K-Pop. It's not rocket science.

I guess their first album is done and even Giselle mentioned about working with the same stylist and photographer of NL teaser posters. Also LDN noise plus few more music producers followed aespa few weeks ago, so I am hoping for a proper hit in their first album.

Not this early but maybe after their 1st EP release because they teased their EP at their Next level conference. This single probably considered as appetizer.
But I'm sure that SM expected to get massive returns from aespa since SM invested THAT much money in their concepts & lore.
SM is Capitalist
