TEDDY lost his hit maker touch ?

Teddy has always been overrated. He made some hits for blackpink but he always uses the same formula, barely any diversity. It worked for blackpink, but even their songs became worse each comeback. At least we get to hear a different side from them, now that they went solo.

He never had one. The hits he made from BLACKPINK was 30% the actual song and 70% charisma and star factor from the BP women.

None of his groups have had a hit yet because none of their songs are original. He's trying to recreate the impact that BP songs had which is impossible because, OBV none of those groups come anywhere close to BP in terms of star factor.

But is he actually producing music for them? When it comes to Meovv he's barely a composer

I think he’s trying to create something different from what he has been doing for years, and obviously, it’s not working.imo , he’s not aiming for instant hits what he prioritizes is his new direction in music. And ı don’t like that new direction ı prefer basic, heavy bass sound and uncreative musics from him.

Teddy had a few good songs a long time ago. Imo the most overrated Kpop producer.

Honestly, his range used to be pretty wide before BP, so I don’t agree that all his songs sound the same. It was only after Bp that he got lazier more than he already was. He knew what fans liked and just kept repeating that same formula and yeah, it worked. The success of Bp is a curse for him somehow because over time, he boxed himself too much without realise he’s stuck in that style. And that formula only really worked for BP, not for his newer groups.

His songs are great and he helped each yge group he worked with achieve incredible image and sound of their own.

But he was limited to YGE image and they worked perfectly together, now both Teddy and YGE are finding it difficult to work within their own groups.

In the end I like Meovv music direction so I'll say he is doing good.

I started listening to kpop in 2019. Never listened to 2ne1, cannot stand gd's voice so obviously i cannot listen to bigbang either. I maybe heard 5 songs of theirs and don't know who did them. I know teddy did loser, that song is fine. Gashina sounds the same, same formula. Blackpink can easily sing it.

Yge is in general stuck in that formula or at least title tracks. I'm not listening to album if i don't like title tracks. Babymonster, treasure, meovv, allday project, their title songs can easily be bp songs.

I always said, he's a much better writer than a composer. He's pretty much finished since 2NE1 disbanded. He never made a single above average or better song since then.

And let's not forget, he didn't really do much for Bigbang, they were a self-produce team, so technically, the only groups he worked for is 2NE1 and Blackpink, I didn't pay much attention to iKON or Winner, but based on his credits, he didn't do much for them.

He lost "touch" long ago. Gashina was carried by vovals of Sunmi, it was a mid song. And BP songs were hit because they were released by BP.

This is the bad take, btw.

Just give the song to someone with cutes concept like ILLIT (no offense to them, they came 1st to my mind), and the song won't be the same or half as good.

Gashina was 100% a HIT only because of Sunmi. Not because she's a powerhouse vocalist, btw, but because she was very popular! It doesn't have anything to do with the drop or the chorus.

If you give the song to someone like IU, Hwasa or Jennie it would've been a bigger hit.

Let's just say how it is: MOST Kpop stans LOVES THE IDOLS, NOT THE SONGS! If you give "Gashina" to a nugu singer, no one would bat an eye. That's why people praising crap BIG4 songs, but trashing similar songs of lesser known Idols.

His recent co-ed group uses a type of "dark" concept which is cliche, cheesy, outdated and "corny"

It seems he was right in being more perfectionist before

I don't think he's awful but when he misses he misses big time. I think he's more than capable of making good music. I think his music can become awful when he tries to do certain hip hop styles he's known for. I think he's made some good songs when he gets out of that zone.

If we look at recent songs when he goes outside of hip. I will say Somi's song Fast Forward, Meovv's songs Hand up and Drop Top, Izna's song Sign and Beep are good songs. I am not sure how involved he is with Izna and Meovv but it shows he can at least produce quality outside of his comfort zone.

I think Sign and Hands up sound different from what he usually does, but Sign does have a nostalgic/outdated feel to it. I think he produces ballad or rock songs better than he does hip hop.

I'm a bit lazy, can somebody give me the songs he have done after 2NE1 and BP?, it's not like keeping tack of things like that.....

What the fuck are you guys talking about? He has a top 10 hit on Melon right now with GD’s Home Sweet Home.

His issue isn’t producing bangers, it’s his slow rate of finishing songs. He has too many artists now to give them all hit songs and so relies on his juniors to pick up the pace and they can’t produce to the same quality as he can.

It's a personal opinion, I never liked Gashina despite being a huge Sunmi fan but recently I gave it a try again on Spotify and I loved Sunmi's vocals.

Idk about his other groups but I think Teddy does good when it comes to Izna’s music (80% of the time)
