2nd gen was pretty much the 1st real Kpop gen when I'm starting to follow groups regularly. Before that, I only knew BoA, G.O.D and S.E.S, but other than BoA I wouldn't say I was a massive Kpop fan. I was more into Jpop.

That is only related to the level of activity. Taeyeon is definitely active and discussed. Maybe your sampling bias that you don't notice that.

Of course, she is not going to be as discussed as the top groups, but then neither is IU.

Besides, why does the amplitude of chatter matter, it is the extent of music consumed that should matter for objective discussions.
