Who do you think is more popular? LE SSERAFIM or (G)I-DLE?
-

actually it depends, in oversea countries le sserafim, in korea is more like gıdle, but overall ı would go with le ssefrafim. cause ı think overall le sserafim has a larger audience.

The answer is clearly LSF. Whether you like it or not they have put out intl hits and are a top group outside of SK.

You realize that IDLE stomps them in Korea digitals by a WIDE margin and total album sales right?
Does scraping the bottom of the Hot 100 for a week matter that much in comparison?

espiecally after perfect nights and cochella, u js have to know this group

True it's not quite the same but it's not too far off is all I meant. I was mostly just saying because we just had that thread lol.
Again it brings up the question of how heavy do you weigh domestic success. I've seen Yama-Chan say many times that a top kpop group has to have domestic success and I think that's pretty fair to say but at what point does international success make domestic success irrelevant?
Now this is a completely impossible scenario but imagine if BP came back next year and exceeds their previous comebacks on spotify, YT, billboard, album sales, etc, but somehow makes no noise on SK charts. Would we stop calling BP the top girl group?

For those who aren't sure of the numbers
Korean Charts: IDLE >>> LSF
Spotify: LSF >>> IDLE
Album Sales: IDLE >> LSF
# of hit songs: IDLE >>> LSF
So....
-
Can we please revoke this guy's ability to post threads, superyeah ?

LSF are a B tier group in SK but that hardly matters when they continue to chart well in every other country. No I don't think Korean digitals don't matter at all, they just aren't relevant in this particular discussion.
You talk as if everyone and their mama charts on the Hot100. Like it's THEE hot100, charting for even a week matters and it matters a lot lmao. Esp for LSF vs Idle cuz the latter has tried to break out in the US but failed.
Idle have been around longer so ofc they will have more sales. LSF are a relatively new group. By the time they are done, they would have sold way more, completed bigger tours and maybe, earned 1 or 2 more hits in SK.

If BP came back and flopped on the Korean charts, let's just say that Blinks would find me more insufferable than I was in 2017, when Mamamoo debuted higher on MelOn and blocked them from getting a #1 song while nearly sweeping them on all the music shows.

I cheated by viewing the results so I went with Le Sserafim.

To me, domestic success or the lack of doesn't matter if the group is 5+ years old. Koreans have always moved on quick. However if a group is charting top 100 on Spotify, earning hot100 entries and can tour to 500k+ ppl while flopping on kcharts then those kcharts hold no meaning.
Obviously the comeback is going to make noise. But then they would simply not be the biggest in SK and they haven't been since IVE dropped After Like.

I'll go with Idle bc overall they have better numbers in more categories than lsrfm.
LSRFM is more known ww, but idle is more success if we count, as we should, Korean side.
Will LSRFM surpass idle? I have no doubt, they are from Hybe and by now we know how Hybe will try to make them happen so while it's just a matter of time I still think idle is more successful and yes, bc they are older with more releases, but still impressive for a non big4 group.

That may also have something to do with marketing or playlisting, because in YT difference is not that big.

YT Music also counts MV views and Idle uses a lot of ads, idk about LSF. It's not just Spotify. LSF also do way better on Apple Music.

In Asia = GIDLE
gidle is bigger than LSRF in china, SEA and korea.
The only place where LSRF is above gidle in asia is japan
The rest of the world = lesserafim
Pretty obvious looking at their charting on bb and spotify
Album sales = Gidle
This one is also pretty obvious gidle surpassed 1M sales
Crazy was the first album release by LSRF since the drop in album sales
And even with all the shipping issue etc... Solve that there was during the 1st, 2nd week
The album still didn't surpass 1M and is still at 820K
Touring = i don't know
I don't think lesserafim did a tour yet
And gidle tour didn't make a lot of noise (at least i didn't have a lot of echo among my group of friends)
+ I didn't keep up with their tour if it happe
Conclusion :
I would say it's a pretty close call based on what you give more importance.

In my experience adds are usually pretty stable something between 20 - 40M. Even if you remove that amount views from the MV , it still not make that big difference.

Gidle is known for being one of the best self-produced girl group, and they already have a sold-out World Tour.
Meanwhile, LSF is known for... well, you know the rest.
Outside of Asia, LSF may be more MAINSTREAM, or I'd say, you can find them in the mainstream media more, but just like in the case of MMM vs BP, Gidle vs LSF is pretty much the same. A nugu group vs a BIG4 group. You can see them in the media more, but that doesn't mean, they're more popular and have more fans.
I wouldn't bet a lot of money on LSF to survive as long as Gidle will.
This isn't even a fair comparison, tbh. Gidle achieved everything alone with the help of Soyeon, while LSF only popular because of the HYBE money.

But couldn't even get past the top 50 on the Korean charts and all of their songs are out of the top 100. They also sold significantly less albums.
I don't care about Spotify or the Hot 100 unless you're pulling NewJeans/BLACKPINK numbers--multiple weeks and charting in the top 50.
I don't really care if a group charts at 98 for 2 weeks. The bar is set so much higher now.

but no other girl group has managed to do what lesserafim did this year on billboard hot 100...they are the one who's setting bar higher now

In a vacuum, sure. But in the greater context of what other fourth generation girl groups have accomplished, it's not that impressive.
If LSF had a song that spent 6+ weeks on the Hot 100 and peaked as high as the top 50, then I would give them a bigger edge. But they just barely scraped the basement and were gone from the chart as quickly as they arrived.
The bar was set by NewJeans who put FIVE songs on the Hot 100 in a year, spent 8 weeks on the chart, peaking as high as 48, and even secured a #1 on the Billboard 200. THAT is the kind of Billboard dominance I need to see.
A 98 on the BB Hot 100, for me, does NOT negate the disastrous charting in Korea that LSF suffered ever since Easy dropped.
Keep in mind that I predicted they would be the #2 girl group by year end, and they remain my second favorite group, but I always stay objective when it comes to the numbers

I'm filing another divorce!

Gidle is currently negotiating their next contract im sorry but longevity >>> LSRF has never had a national hits like tomboy, they have yet to outsell Gidle this year, I see LSRF holding a stadium in japan but Gidle is currently doing arenas in Asia and they sold out all their tickets, they’re massive in China they sell millions there the only thing LSRF has more than them is Spotify even if they’re consistent they do have their ups and downs. Spotify isn’t all that.
-
-
I would say Gidle is more popular both internationally and in Korea. People only say LSF because they have no idea how huge gidle is in China lol.
