I still think the 2018-2021 era, from the release of DDDD to the release of Next Level was more toxic than this year. The ground literally shook from the massive behemoths, BTS and Blackpink, as their fanbases waged a literal world war in defense of their faves.

At least the Hybe fanwar hasnt devolved into slutshaming/racist attacks on the members of IIIIT, NJ, LSRFM, BTS, etc.

Back in the day, you saw Blinks going crazy throwing out racist/homophobic insults against BTS while Armies would go to town with the slutshaming of the Pinks.

So far, the toxicity is limited to attacks on Bang and MHJ, and charting and popularity arguments among the groups affected.

The one caveat is the hate train that LSRFM has received, it's the worst i've ever seen, and that's because EVERYONE piled on. Buddies, Mys, Dives, Blinks were the main offenders but eventually i saw Tokkis of course and even rando fans of nugu groups like Loona, NMIXX, and others piling on. It all happened because LSRFM finally got their #1 national hit and rival fans couldnt take it.

I have not seen anything extraordinary, but have not read 95% of that hybe megathread, so maybe it is people in there

2020 - 2021 were more toxic imo. Kpop fanwars increased online due to covid shutdown worldwide.

There's definitely a uptick. I think HYBE fans (it'll, LSFM, NJ) are a little on edge with all the drama, so there finding any excuse to lash out on other fandoms. So they were just ready to jump on IVE when they didn't get a win. But i feel like its granted because the excuse for poor international draw, was they do well locally. Well if you're not winning on music shows, are you really doing well locally? Obviously one top placement, but not their usual dominate charting is still a win and doing well.

NJ is just getting more attention because everyone wants to know if MHJ drama is affected their popularity at all.

Basicallly a perfect storm. If Aespa was flopping this comeback, they'd definitely be getting some heat too.
