The death of an era

  • With one now unfortunately confirmed split and with Lisa’s highly rumored turning down of her contract……….. it feels like i’m watching kpop monoliths fall apart

The first kpop group i ever stanned completely in my life was Red Velvet. I’ve purchased most of their albums, I’ve learned almost all of their dances (up to PAB)

I remember Irene and Seulgi doing their dance for the Be Natural clip and when Happiness was released and then taken offline like immediately. And when Yeri was randomly added…. I’m so so so heartbroken.

I remember driving in upstate New York trying to get service because i was on vacation and BlackPink was debuting so i had YouTube open on my phone and i was refreshing it over and over to try to get the page to load and the videos go buffer. I remember the original original photos of BlackPink being released before they even debuted and seeing Lisa and thinking “woah she looks so cool” because even in those pictures back then she already had something going for her.

Is 5th gen going to start debuting??? I feel like time is passing too quickly

  • The end began in 2022. It's been an accelerated freefall since then.

3rd generation K-Pop will always be the era I identify as being "my era" where I watched every group debut, rise and now sadly wind down their careers or disband.

It's time for the new guard. They've got big shoes to fill.

Idk ive lived in this fantasy land where all of the 3rd gen groups were being treated well, happy, and would last 4ever

  • Irene confirmed she is leaving SM?

There’s something very wrong with you. Something I don’t think can be fixed.

Yes I saw this too, so I guess there is still no final word on it?

  • <3 Resonating heavy with this one. As the start of a new era of K-Pop begins, one can't help but reminisce about past generations and how much personal history we shared with the different groups we stan/ed

<3 I personally got into K-Pop around the 2nd Generation where groups like BIG BANG, SNSD, 2NE1, SHINee ruled and it seemed like their shoes were impossible to fill but then, the 3rd Generation came and groups such as BTS, BLACKPINK, EXO, TWICE took the world by storm and then the 4th Generation was introduced and groups like TXT, New Jeans, Stray Kids, LE SSERAFIM, IVE, ENHYPEN are currently thriving and now that the 5th Generation is starting to trickle in slowly, it'll be fascinating to see what journey of accomplishments lie ahead of them as the torch passes on

<3 As new generations are introduced and new trends, concepts, styles evolve over time, one can't help but feel proud of how big and globalized K-Pop has become especially those who were there from the beginning but it's also bittersweet feeing because it's just another reminder that we're getting older

<3 Nonetheless, as contracts are being discussed and groups are entering into different stages in their careers, I thank them for their hard work and wish them the best for the future that's to come...still super bummed about RV & BP though ngl :sob-bunny:

2022? lol the end started a lot sooner than that.

March 14, 2021 was the day of infamy. It was the day that this happened. The last performance and official activity of Izone before their disbandment in April 30, 2021.

When Izone was sabotaged and forced to disband, the dam that was holding back 4th generation cracked open and all hell broke loose. Izone's light was finally extinguished, allowing 4th gen to finally breathe and shine in their own right.

Literally weeks after Izone's disbandment, Aespa released a little song called Next Level. It was the biggest song of 2021 and dealt a mortal blow to both IU and BTS in one fell swoop.

This was the beginning of the end for 3rd generation.

The fate of 3rd gen was sealed completely when, from the ashes of Izone's destruction, the biggest act in Korea and the kings of 4th generation were resurrected - IVE.
