SM can't handle competition really well that they started to fuck up with their groups

  • Remember when it was SNSD vs 2NE1?

2NE1 released their best album ever and SM lost the footage of the music video of SNSD's title track.
This comeback signaled the end of SNSD as the top group. Crazy how poorly SM is running their groups after they hit big.

was it the mr. mr. comeback? it still did pretty well.

my theory is sm was lying because they wanted to avoid releasing the same time as 2ne1 ;judgingpepe:

  • sorry for coming off as aggressive

Yes SM has always been incompetent

    Compared to what tho?

That’s my problem with this thread, is that it’s entirely discussed in a vacuum.

YG: Failed Ikon (whole group leaves), Drug/prostitution scandal that brought down company and member leaving their most popular BG. Winner low sales.

JYP: Botched Nmixx, Got7 leaving, the band they released after Day 6 failed horrible, and Day 6 (member kicked right after debut) and group is basically dead.

Starship: Cravity had multiple Produce members and STILL failed. Monsta X is doing alright, but no where close to SM groups.

So let’s be real, if we’re talking about incompetent, SM is doing pretty good. The only company that has a better track record is HYBE and i’m hesitant to call it a better track record because they are essentially a baby company compared to the other companies listed, so they have LOTS of time to fall off/start running into problems.

If SM is incompetent, then basically every other company in kpop rn (besides maybe HYBE) is brain dead :pepe-narrow-eyes:

  • at least ikon has 2 hits one of them was a national hit

  • Mmmm

One thing for sure sm nee to stop the nct thing, people look at it from the sales/merch point of view but no company just live of that

A Korean company will want Korean awareness and sm had that with aespa fro a lil but aespa concept on itself it's way to gimmicky to last long

  • That’s not a flex lol that’s something to be embarrassed about that even a national hit can’t keep you relevant. Goes to show how useless having hits can be if you have nothing else.

that's a flex because most boy groups don't even get to have that lol (even rhythm ta did decently on charts) that's nothing to be ashamed of they literally were the second breadwinner after big bang for a while (before bp) they were shipped to Japan after their first year of debut and were constantly touring. YG didn't capitalize on them when they were doing well.

you probably don't know because you got into kpop a bit later

So yes they faded to irrelevancy. Glad you agree.

  • So yes they faded to irrelevancy. Glad you agree.

no, this proves that user statement is wrong. They weren't the biggest boy group but how are they failed group if they achieved a lot of things before B.I's scandals? like let's be real this would have affected any group other than BB. It's not something most boy groups go through it's an unfortunate case.

  • The thing is that they want to come out with an out-of-the-box concept for their newer groups, but then they won't commit to it

Like, Aespa had a great 2021, they were on top of the girl group pyramid. Then in 2022 they had one single comeback that didn't meet SM's expectations and they kinds dropped them without a reason. How are they supposed to make more fans If they are not promoting?

It seems like SM got scared of the fact that the newer rookies are making popular a sound that is the total opposite of Aespa's. I can only speak for myself, but one thing I miss from the 2nd-early 3rd gen era is that every group had their sound and identity, meanwhile now It's like a race of who can jump into the newer music trend faster.

So to me Aespa needs to stick to the hyperpop sound, make It their own niche - And, for God sake, SM needs to expand their lore... The last time they dropped that mini movie was 2021. In my opinion, they should release a video like this at least once a year and then create an entire interactive internet site about the lore, the characters and with some mini games too. It should be the bare minimum for a company like SM, but as I said in the beginning, they create interesting concepts but then fail to commit to them.

I see some issues with the entire NCT project, but at least they don't put them on a hiatus like Aespa lmao

  • SM has a management problem because they have too less employees because they are cheap. They did not even released teasers for SHINee back then and just dropped the music video. Not even the other groups knew until weeks later that SHINee debuted

  • Because they're stupid.

I'm not an exol, but they had gold in their hands with Exo. As it always happens with bgs though, the military ruined momentum. They pushed NCT but they can't reach the greatness of Exo IMO. Exo has great songs, amazing singers... NCT IMO is just noise music. Trust me I'm not biased or fall into fanwars, I listen things because I like them. But I made an effort and never seemed to enjoy or understand the popularity of NCT songs, they all just sound noise to me (along with Ateez and SKZ). There's just no melody in these songs. Eh.

With BTS in the military, I just wish these dumbwits would bring Exo back to their glory days so at least we have good music to listen to.

Agreed. They didn't capitilise on it. Yes it was annoying af seeing ExoL complain about it from 2018 - 2022(It was too late by then), but they lost a chance at somewhat of a mega popular SM group in the US.

  • I don’t think sm can debut a boygroup better than exo, that was their best chance but it feels like they’re not realizing that. They could still let them come back tho

  • I think SM is rather successful with Dream. And I believe 127 is doing okay. If compared to them to BTS, SM could be disappointed but BTS is an anomaly.

Also, I don’t have anything against Exo, I actually like some of their songs but I don’t think they had a future outside Asia. I don’t see groups with a lot of numbers being huge outside Asia. I believe SVT will have the same problem. And with Aespa and 127 it looks like SM wanted to expand outside Asia.
