The state of RBW Entertainment?

  • This is just pure speculation, of course I have no access for any company's financial information however the things aren't looking that great for them right now.

They grew a lot thanks to Mamamoo, absorbed bunch of smaller companies, however it doesn't seem like investment is paying off yet. Mamamoo and OMG bring decent income with all the deals and activities I believe, however both groups are past their prime. Mamamoo have been struggling to get a hit song for a while now and OMG also underperformed this year.

Groups like Oneus, Kard seems to be a self sufficient group on their own, however I don't think they can maintain the company. Meanwhile rookies like Purple Kiss and Mirae are yet to find a footing. In any case, with all these absorption. RBW needs to see returns asap. I think it is not a surprise that they decided to bring Kara back, since they acquired the brand together with the DSP acquisition. I am interested in seeing where this all goes.

  • It is a shame they could only benefit off the Kingdom for a less than a year before enlisting. Curious if they'll be able to maintain some of that fandom they gathered.

I think that they were being conscientious of the enlistment. they had 4 comebacks prior to enlisting, got their first show win before enlistment, and they even released new music during enlistment. They clearly worked the boys off a lot and wanted to squeeze as much out of them before enlistment happened. U, the only member who isn't enlisting, I see around doing some small solo gigs here and there. It's not big moves by any means, but it's definitely better than leaving him in the box.

So as long as they keep a good momentum going, I think they'll be fine. However, I hope they don't overwork them either.

Anyways, stream your song weeeeee. :dancer-pepe:

I think the trainees are all dead

I mean they introduced them in 2020 and since the end of 2021 nobody is posting onto social media or Youtube anymore and only 1 of them posts all few weeks something (mostly just when he got an advertisment deal or so) and IDK what even is happening to them.

Basicly in 2020 around 10-ish months after Produce 101 Japan season 1 had ended RBW announced they had taken 4 trainees who had been participants on the show before. One of them left the company but was replaced by someone else around half a year later. Before that was announced the 3 member who stayed of the trainee group apeard on the chinese survival show Chuang2021. However later on it became very silent around the trainees in the end of 2021 and the new boy was the only one who did not even post anything for christmas or new year while the other 3 posted. After this nobody else posted anymore except one dude, who's name is Hiroto who sometimes posts. RBW did not state anything about the boys (where one of them was even allready 26 years old) so nobody even knows anything

I don't even know if these boys are still in the company (except maybe Hiroto).

  • They make already a lot of money with their house producer. They have a different strategy from other classic kpop agencies they had already explained it. They seek above all to acquire producers, licenses and catalogs when they bought WM and DSP They work a lot with the cinema industry in Korea, it pays them a lot. If I remember correctly they have more than 15 house producer.

That's why i call them music geek company.

When it comes to music I have total confidence, when it comes to marketing run away.

If you really love something, you have to know how to let go.

  • I just look at the KARA members profile in wikipedia and 1 member is not in DSP

One? What do you mean one, none of them are under DSP. But nevertheless the group name was copyrighted by DSP similar to how Source Music copyrighted Gfriend and Cube copyrighted Beast. And after RBW acquired DSP they acquired the copyright as well and freed Kara from having to work with DSP in order to comeback basically. That was the key for the comeback.

  • remember that tv/radio gigs also bring company money

same as youtube channels of Mamamoo members

example Solar was MC/judge in two music related shows

Moonbyul has radio show Studio Moon Night on Naver Now, and she was in JTBC's Second World singing show for rappers

Hwasa will soon have her own program

and you just had Wheein being flied to Qatar by Budweiser

Both ONEUS and Purple KISS seem to be doing better, ONEUS sales are growing, both groups lost member but that also means saving on daily expenses like food, and water/electricity bills - which we all know that three prices skyrocketed in 2022 around the world...

Purple KISS Swan is doing more solo gigs, she was/is in MNet's Artistock Game, she also did some busking with Winner's Seungyoon.

Also KARA was in all best variety shows, and knowing how many times Youngji guested in Running Man before I'm pretty sure girls will go there as well.

KARD had their big tour, MAMAMOO is going on their one soon, and ONEUS as well will have US/Mex Tour in january 2023.

Even Purple KISS sold out their fanmeeting, showcase, and concert in Japan...

  • Music wise I was a little disappointed in 2022. Real Love is the first OMG's title ever that I didn't enjoy. Ring the Alarm and Nerdy were pretty mid imo. Illela is good but not really an impactul song. But then they still all had some good bsides so overall that's fine

This is very interesting. They seemed to be not in a rush on their groups and willing to wait it out, so this explains a lot.

I just looked it up - it says revenue grew, but profits grew at a slower rate than the prior year, which is to be expected if they’re making investments (ie buying other companies.) They seem healthy enough.

  • When it comes to Mamamoo, I think RBW needs to use more outsourced help on uptempo tracks. I don't find most of their "in-house" work for the group to be as engaging as I would like across each release.

The "Cosmic Duo" has already helped in the past with at least 3 hit quality tracks for Mamamoo and Solar. RBW can still do most, if not all, of the ballads.

  • Rbw need to realize that they're not Hybe and Sm. I think at this point we just need to wait for a few more years till we get their bankruptcy news. The company is not even big with huge revenues, and now they need to support another company too, lol.
