Hybe lost over 10 Billion dollars!?!

  • Can idols get affected when their company loses a lot of money? 21

The result is only visible to the participants.

How do the big 3 companies not lose anything equivalent to that?

  • isn;t that normal?in my country, some bigshot tech startups lost a lot of money after their ipo because they were overvalued

Did they survive and made a comeback? How did that affect their products?

Also the stock market crashed last week. I genuinely think discussion like this doesnt fit kpop forums like this with people having limited POVs lmao. I do agree their stock was a bit overvalued late last year but with successful solo debuts next year and more certainty over their acts they can recover slowly.

  • not for now

but if company will buy/acquire/invest into not worthy things/products/AI it might backfire in the future

also if they want to "dodge" taxes

they should rather build a HYBE Theater or maybe even HYBE Arena, host there concerts, performances, loan it for shows

make part of it a "museum" that kids from schools from whole Korea, maybe even foreign schools can visit too

for the local companies, the stocks have still not recovered, are at almost 50% -70% of the ipo price which is sad for the shareholders

one is a financial service startup so the business is doing ok they will be fine in the long term

the other is a food delivery based startup which is still not profitable, so its going to be difficult for this one in the long term

  • Please get yourself educated in Financial and Market Investment first before writing such a dumb article - I agree with this comment in the article. lol

If people do not understand the basic concept of market capitalization, stocks trading above and below price per share and financial statements, you should just stick to kpop than writing about financial situations of companies.

    low the growth of JYP

after those financial problems in the past this really shows you that companies not only can survive but also thrive if they are managed well

I think what worries Kpop fans who are interested in company finances is a loss, especially a big loss that may affect the financing of their favs promotions and stuff.

yep. JYP’s rise from the “dead” (pre TWICE) is one for the books. The promising future of SKZ has also secured their stock price too. Best performing out of big 3 rn I can say.

  • We need more financial education of Kpop fans, especially company stans.

    There, I've fixed it.

  • I’d be more worried about their own being this severely misinformed. ^^

If they worry that much about their faves “earning” they should worry about things such as revenue growth, net income, cash flow statement etc.

It's not about idols' earnings but the ability of their label to fund their promotions.

Labels need money to train idols, produce music, dress them, house them, transport them, shoot their MVs etc

Have you seen the state of the economy? Perhaps we need to have a course on the market here, but there are a lot of moving parts and I think it might be over a lot of people's heads. I think that is what people are getting at - I know 10 billion seems concerning at face value (and why AKP seized on it), but there's a bigger picture to be had. The easiest thing to say is that it's a market correction and not a totally unexpected one given the sheer amount hybe around Hybe's IPO.

Either way, to take this and then say it shows that Hybe is gonna tank tomorrow displays a fundamental misunderstanding of the market. New media feeds or being sensastionalist/alarmist for views and this thread is a product of that.

    I agree.

A loss and a correction are two very different things, it makes sense why it's alarmist!

  • It's not the company that took a financial hit, but the people who bought their share at the initial value.

There was another article on similar topic. Financial advisors prey on seniors to invest their entire retirement on hot markets like entertainment and tech companies. That's likely what happened here.

  • Recession is natural economic cycle especially after big event like covid19 where tons of money was printed. Central banks are raising interest rates now to fight inflation all over the world. Money is currently way more expensive than it was years ago. Pretty much every asset class have crashed. Even gold have less value than before. The best investment currently is US dollar in the short term.

AKP writer trying to make article about financial report without seeing the whole picture is really funny.

  • Confess I have a no idea how these type of stuff work but wouldn't it make sense that they lost money this year with two new groups debuting. It often take a couple of comebacks before groups break even

Even big 3 idols often aren't paid right after their debut since they haven't made any profit yet if I'm not wrong

Unless idols make less than what was spent on them at debut, they get paid immediately.

JYP said that it costs half a million to debut a girl group and I think that all big 3 groups can make at least half a million at debut.

  • First, the company doesn't "lose" money when their stock goes down. Hybe is probably still making a good profit. It just impacts their ability to raise money.

Edit: "The firm’s operating profit grew by a whopping 215.3% YoY, however, from 28,010 billion KRW ($21.3m) in Q2 2021 to 88,310 billion KRW ($67.4m) in Q2 2022."

Second, they were overvalued at IPO and were absurdly overvalued at their peak, even in the best-case scenarios.

    Current price is more reasonable.
